Stuck pieces

Any ideas on how to separate these pieces without damaging the Lego.

Just stick any "bar"-shaped piece through the bottom hole far enough to push the flame out but not get stuck, then pull the bar back out.

I did try that but the piece will not budge at all..should have mentioned that earlier

I ended up getting them apart using needle nose pliers and a sock the flame piece was fine but I damaged the 1x1 round plate, there was an extra included so I am not too worried. I did not plan on putting them two back together again anyhow.
