[TNB Review] 10695 Creative Building Box

Post by Brickbuilder0937 » Mon Apr 20, 2015 9:28 pm

Set#: 10695
Name: Creative Building Box
Theme: Classic
Year: 2015
Pieces: 580
Minifigs: None
Brick Seperator: Yes
Price: US $30 / CAN $40 / UK £20

The Box:

The box is cardboard and measures about 7" x 9" x 9"

The back of the box shows the part inventory.

The top flips open and makes a neat storage container for the bricks.
Image

The pieces fill less than a quarter of the volume of the box, leaving room for more pieces or for creations.
Image

The Pieces:

There are five bags of parts, a loose 6 x 12 plate and an instruction booklet.
Image

Some of these colors can be hard to get unless you buy a lot of friends sets.

It's a little hard to see in the picture but there are five shades of blue and seven shades of green
Image

Image

In total there are 37 different colors of pieces, the most of any of the classic themed sets.

All the pieces together in one pile.

Here you can see the general part distribution by basic type. The pieces are seperated into basic brick, plates, slopes and everything else.

The Build:

The booklet provides instructions for these four models

The rest of the models were built from instructions downloaded from the LEGO website.
All of the models can be built without taking any apart.

Conclusion:

DESIGN 9/10 - There is a good balance between basic pieces (bricks, plates and slopes) and the more specialty parts. Plus it comes with a somewhat sturdy storage container.

PLAYABILITY 10/10 - Having only a few small models will hopefully promote creativity rather than playing with the inspiration models. It can be a little hard to build mocs with a color scheme (having so few of any one color), but since many younger kids don't coordinate colors anyway this doesn't detract from the set.

PARTS 9/10 - I would say that the biggest plus for this set is the large variety of colors. It also has three types of eye pieces, two of which only come in the classic themed sets.

PRICE 10/10 - At $30 this comes out to just under 5.2 cents a piece. Considering that, and how many different colors this set has, it's a deal not to be missed.

OVERALL 9.5/10

Thanks for reading and don't forget to answer the poll.

Walmart (was) selling this for $20 in stores. You may still find a few, not sure.

Watch out with this set. The tape is very poorly attached so the boxes get opened just by employees stocking them on the shelves. There should be 5 bags sorted by color family and a loose green plate.

It was an Easter special I believe, I grabbed 8 for gifts for the kids, and for playbrick at their school. Some places were subbing the http://brickset.com/sets/10696-1classic medium box for same $20.00 price because they ran out so quick.
