Jurassic World Toy Fair Report

Post by vynsane » Sun Feb 15, 2015 9:40 pm

I honestly don’t know too much about Jurassic World, so I won’t have much to say about them. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves for the most part.

These sets are slated for May 2015 release.

75915 Pteranodon Capture
Price: $19.99
Pieces: 174
Minifigures: 2
Dinosaurs: 1

79516 Dilophosaurus Ambush
Price: $29.99
Pieces: 248
Minifigures: 2
Dinosaurs: 1

The Dilophosaurus looks incredible, and the build of the jeep is actually quite impressive.

75917 Raptor Rampage

Pieces: 324
Minifigures: 3
Dinosaurs: 2

Featuring Chris Pratt character minifigure #3 vs. two velociraptors!

75918 T. Rex Tracker
Price: $69.99
Pieces: 520
Minifigures: 3
Dinosaurs: 1

75919 Indominus Rex Breakout
Price: $129.99
Pieces: 1156
Minifigures: 3
Dinosaurs: 1

Obviously the Indominus Rex is the main event here. The compound it apparently breaks out of is relatively mundane, though the triangular shape is more interesting when compared to the largest DINO set from a few years ago.

I'm very disappointed in these, but it's kind of good, more money for Scooby Doo.

Am I the only one a tad underwhelmed by this? The Dino theme that came out in 2012... most of these are recolored versions of the same mold, and the sets all feel the same but in different colors. The raptor, T-rex, and Teranadon use the exact same mold. The Dilophosaurus is the same as the raptor but with a different upper head part. Otherwise exactly the same. The Indominous Rex is a retooled T-rex; the legs are the exact same, and everything else is only marginally different (mini spikes and a few other tweaks). The I-Rex and all the other dino's look really cool for sure, but it doesn't feel all that 'new' in terms of Lego looking Dino's.

Other thoughts:

I still am not wild about the Raptors and Dilo's being so big. The main HQ seems too small as well, especially compared to the 2012 HQ. I see the appeal to JW sets, but with so many other things coming out, and the 2012 Dino's so recently on our heels, this feels like an easy pass until a big sale.

I think bigger dino helps with playability. It is more fun when you can shove a minifig into their mouths. There are interesting parts in some of the sets. I'll wait to see how the movie do in the box offices first.

Thanks for the photos. Of all the JW sets I think I like the 79516 Dilophosaurus Ambush set the best. The T-rex, pterandon, and raptors are using the 2012 Dino mouldings with some variation in color and printing. While not very poseable, 2012 Dino animals are the best looking dinosaurs Lego has put out so far - the JW color variations could be useful in some situations. The gyroball looks interesting because it is mostly transparent and spherical... I am somewhat disappointed that Lego didn't make a totally brand new moulding for a totally different type of dinosaur like a Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus, Ankylosaurus, mosasaurus, or a Spinosaurus... maybe if the movie turns out to be a hit - Lego will consider making additional dinosaur mouldings...

For smaller mouths - a minifig arm or leg can be equally as fun. :-)

I really like the two smallest sets. That pteranodon has an awesome color scheme.

Just showed my son these and he is so excited. He does not care about reused molds. He loves Dino's.

I only like 75916, but not enough to buy it. I've got a bunch of the dinosaurs from some years back so I don't need new ones unless if they're better.

I like the bright green dinosaur. It is super cool looking. I think the sets are a little plain kind of like a city themed building sets. But i do like the coloring of the dinos.

No main gate entrance? Hopefully the LEGO Ideas version comes through.

I love the dinos. The sets and structures are a little underwhelming, but that has been the trend. The focus here is obviously on the dino's. It would have been nice for a few more new moulds, but I like these just the same. I love the colors.
