Grand Emporium thread

Post by vexxet » Mon Jun 09, 2014 12:00 am

this seems to be the next set that's getting retired in about a month or so. followed by the Sopwith Camel, VW camper van, and Pet Shop. If you were waiting on it now would be a good time to get it as the SSD is gone like so many others predicted.

Haunted House is also rumored to being retired around November.

The Grand Emporium is an awesome set, and a really fun build. Now that the fire hall is retired, this is the oldest modular available so it should be the next to go. If you haven't got it and are thinking of it, definitely get it.

Here's a link to a review I did of it a while ago, back when I had the time to do reviews of sets. I miss those days.

I just picked this one up over the weekend. Only made the 1st level so far but it is an interesting build. I like the way the curved sign is made. I suppose the pet shop is next on my list.

It is a very nice set. I am a proud owner but it's sealed in the box. And like someone mentioned above, it's currently the oldest modular set so it will be going out of production next. It's been made since March of 2010 so, wow, it's over 4 years old now!!!!

Thanks for letting me know, it was that old. I didn't even realize that much time has gone by. I got it and I am glad I did. I normally don't like buying the large special lego items because they are sometimes overpriced or poorly designed or have really no use for me. But it is a really good price for the amount of pieces you get and it is a well designed building.

S@H is now limiting pretty much all sets to 5, you'd be hard pressed to find any set with limit 99 like they used to do.

I just loved The Grand Emporium set and building from this was certainly fun. I wish I could get it.

This is correct, I just checked several sets on legoshop.com in 'exclusives' category and they do have limits, usually 5 but I saw few sets with limit 2. All the modulars have limit 5 but one has limit of 99, that's funny :) which one? It's Parisian restaurant...
I agree with the list above of sets soon to retire, they are the oldest in their theme or simply are being produced for years now and makes sense to assume that they are next to go. Tower bridge too I think...
I also believe that $400 Death Star will be gone soon, I know it's called life star (or something like that) because of how long it's alive and produced but......how long can u make one set...(till it brings no profit? I just want it to go away and it's prices skyrocket on eBay :) what can I say....I sell lego ;-)
