I think LEGO universe is the most awesome computer game they have ever come out with!
And it looks better every week.

It looks like a fun game, too bad it will be subscription service (ie monthly or yearly fees), which means I won't be playing it.
Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard disk?

So is this like the Star Wars Galaxies or World of Warcraft of LEGO?

Yep, pretty much. I don't think having to pay will be such a bad thing, it just means that it will be a much better game.

Probably both. I think you have to buy the software and install it, and on top of that, you pay a monthly fee for online play. (I think you pay a monthly fee anyway.)

While I'm a huge Lego fan, the thought of having to pay a subscription to interact with a bunch of 10 year olds doesn't really appeal to me. I belong to the Brick~Busters! Group on FLickr, and we've spent the last 6 months or so busting little kids who swipe Mocs from AFOLs and post them on the Lego Universe site as their own, even entering them into contests!!
If that is representative of the future users, I'd pass.

Just thought I'd mention they are sending out the invitations for the closed beta testing of the game.
Check your email if you applied.
I have inoperable cancer and am unable to work. Any gifts would be appreciated. Thank you!

Did everyone that sign up got an invite or only select individuals?

The little bit I've gotten to play is good(open testing times are not good for me). Can't give any details though. NDA

Nothing too special on the figure. Just like a speeder racer figure mixed with space theme. I wonder how much it will be?

Just FYI, the link from the news article on the main page isn't working. Also, I couldn't find this topic to put my post in, so I just created a new topic - the search function doesn't seem to be working properly, otherwise I wouldn't have done so.
I want the minifig, and I'm not even sure I want to actually play the game at all. Is it ONLY online/pay-for-play or are there things you can do offline, just on your local machine?
