I'm more than a bit ashamed I'm voting for myself. I don't think that you should be able to do so in a contest. In the future if its possible I'd like to see that changed so that you cannot vote for yourself.
That said I liked all the entries in the contest. The ones I liked the best were the ones that I think are going to be the next generation of space travel. Vynsane's entry definitely is on the agenda of multiple private corporations looking to break into the space travel business. I wouldn't be surprised if his creation is built before he pegged it for. As for mine, I expect that one day there will be a space elevator somewhere out in the Atlantic around the equator, sending people up into space without rocket propulsion or the need for heavy and bulky heat shielding. When that day is, I couldn't really say now. People tend to dismiss such things out of hand...about as crazy 'as putting a man on the moon.' The Japanese believe they could do it now and I hope they do so soon but I know its not the right economy for it right now in any part of the world and Japan has more on their plate right now than they know what to do with.
I think if the Space Elevator doesn't come through that hatcher's I.S.E. build would be the next step in space travel. I think that the most likely place we would send it to would be Mars. It would require a lot less supplies as it is only 2 years travel distance than the 20 years hatcher seems to be prepared for : ) Plus with the recent discoveries of water trapped in ice, saltwater flowing during the spring time and refreezing during the winter, that Mars is the perfect thing that is needed to pique curiosity once again in space travel.
Good contest.
