It is true. A month or two ago, when someone posted about their store having the Winter Bakery for sale, I called and had them ship me one that was on sale for 50% off. Shipping costs sucked if I remember.legitimatealex wrote:These sets are exactly what I was hoping for. They are absolutely brilliant and detailed. This is such a right step in the direction I would like to see this line of Castle go.
Also I have never heard of the LEGO stores actually shipping from the store. That does sound insane.
2011 LEGO Kingdoms
Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.
Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
Village... Awesome set, plus its about to be gone forever at that price. You will have at least another year to save up to get the other =)Bricksnapper52 wrote:I agree and along those lines I need some advice.legitimatealex wrote:Skip the second castle, I want more village scenes. I am thinking about skipping the Mill Village Raid in favor of the Medieval Village. The Medieval Village is $99. Only $20 more than the Village Raid (Guessing $79 range based on rumors right?)
If you guys had to choose between the two, which one would you pick? I'm leaning toward the Medieval Village.

Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
I will second the recommendation on the Medieval Village. The Mill Raid looks like it will be a great set, but the Village is already a great set and has many more parts for only slightly more money. Get the Village now, and save up and watch for sales on the Mill Raid. I'm sure I'll pick up that set as well to add to my Village, but you'll kick yourself later if you don't pick up the Village while it is still available for MSRP.
Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
The village is one of the best pieces of business I have ever done with the Lego Company. You will not regret it. The windmill, while it looks great and is a must-buy on my list, too, will not be able to hold a candle to the value of the village once it's discontinued.

Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
I just got the Market Village, definitely a great investment. Been wanting it for a long time. Get it before it is gone.
Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
Spotted the Mill Raid set at TRU today. Looks even better in person!
Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
I love the new Kingdoms sets and I hope TRU will have them on sale soon...preferably for MORE than just 20% off. Their 'tiered discount' would be nice, with 25% (or better, 30%!) off a purchase of three or more sets.
I'm thinking that multiples of the smaller sets will definitely find their way home with me.

For the price I'll let it slide. It's a set totally for the parts.lukeskywalker wrote:some of those weapons are awesome!! too bad there's only 2 minifigures. :(Mantisking wrote:Apparently, there are new pieces in the 6918: Blacksmith Attack set.

That bucket handle is dark brown, but in the POTC sets, the handles are a lighter tan color.
Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
Just got the blacksmith attack and mill village raid, couldn't be happier!
Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
Mill Village Raid is awesome although at first I was torn between it and another MMV. They do compliment each other so nicely though I gots to admit!

Okay, so I couldn't wait for a better price.Ogre21 wrote:I love the new Kingdoms sets and I hope TRU will have them on sale soon...preferably for MORE than just 20% off. Their 'tiered discount' would be nice, with 25% (or better, 30%!) off a purchase of three or more sets.

Hit TRU's '20% off Kingdoms' sale last week and walked away with 1x Mill Village Raid, 1x King's Carriage, 1x Prison Tower Rescue, 1x Prison Carriage Rescue, 2x Blacksmith Attack and 2x Escape from the Dragon's Prison.
I think my wallet went into shock.

Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
Does anyone find the MSRP more reasonable for new wave of kindoms series than last year Kingdoms sets(or other non-licensed sets)?
Except "King’s Carriage Ambush", all sets are closed to $0.10 per piece. I just had time/chance to review the price of 2011 kingdoms set, and I find $19.99 for 7181 "Escape from the Dragon’s Prison" is a good value set. Four minifigs with weapons and shields plus a horse with barding could already cost as much as $14.

Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
Only the dragon prison is worth the money this round. The $10 set is better previously. 3 figures + 1 horse. This round, you get only 2 figures. The mill is good because of the billy goats and chickens and pitchforks.
Initially I thought the new heroica weapons would be good for mfs but I was wrong. They are just too small. Not sure why the blacksmith set would have a set of these.

Let's see… In year and then piece count order, rounded to 1/10th of a cent…
2010 Kingdoms:
7949 Prison Carriage Rescue $9.99 / 50 pieces____= 20.0 cents/piece (what? wow.)
7950 Knight's Showdown $6.99 / 61 pieces______= 11.5 cents/piece
7948 Outpost Attack $19.99 / 194 pieces_______= 10.3 cents/piece
7947 Prison Tower Rescue $49.99 / 365 pieces__= 13.7 cents/piece
7946 King's Castle $99.99 / 933 pieces____________= 10.7 cents/piece
AVERAGE CENTS PER PIECE______________________~ 13.24 cents/piece
2011 Kingdoms:
5918 Blacksmith Attack $9.99 / 104 pieces______________= 9.6 cents/piece
7187 Escape from the Dragon's Prison $19.99 / 185 pieces__= 10.8 cents/piece
7188 King's carriage Ambush $39.99 / 285 pieces__________= 14.0 cents/piece
7189 Mill Village Raid $69.99 / 663 pieces_________________= 10.6 cents/piece
AVERAGE CENTS PER PIECE________________________________~ 11.25 cents/piece

(I didn't use a spreadsheet and did the math a little strangely, but hey whatever, it's Lego.)
So we're two cents/piece cheaper than last year's MSRP prices. Not bad, especially considering there were more pieces in the 2010 sets (although there were more smaller sets in 2010). Hmm. I say Lego has done their math and design very well here. We have fewer sets with less pieces, at a cheaper price point. That makes sense for a theme like this in its second year, I think - don't want to burn it out or put people off by offering too much.
So the two cheapest-per-part sets are Blacksmith Attack and Outpost Attack. Followed by Mill Village Raid and King's Castle. Blacksmith Attack in particular is looking more attractive to me now. I might scoop up two copies of that with a TRU BOGO sale.
The most expensive-per-part sets are Prison Carriage Rescue and King's Carriage Ambush. The King's Carriage figures since it has so many figs, horses, and special colored parts etc. But man, I had to do the calculation of Prison Carriage Rescue four times until I believed it. 20 cents per part? Not entirely worth it, I say. The set isn't THAT nice. That explains why that set is the one I most commonly see sitting on shelves while other sets aren't.

Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
Right, "Prison Carriage Rescue" is not worth if we do the calculation based on price per piece. However, I still picked them up because I needed more guards for "king castle". It was still a much better deal than 852921 battle pack while BOGO was found. Besides, the box set of 7949 is cheapter than picking 3 kingdoms minifigures and a horse from bricklink.Zeya wrote: The most expensive-per-part sets are Prison Carriage Rescue and King's Carriage Ambush. Re: 2011 LEGO Kingdoms
I always don't get the price per piece analysis. That math only works if all pieces are the same, but we know not all pieces are created the same so that comparison is as useful as comparing baseplates vs 1x1 round stud plates and saying baseplates are way overpriced.
The only unique feature of castle sets is the figures and accessories since you can hardly recreate castle figures from city or other themes. As such, the price point per figure and also the unique figure counts become more important than just mere price per piece. In that sense, prison carriage rescue is an excellent value to buy especially for army builders.
