Re: New LEGO store opening near Toronto
I heard many Lego stores are usually open before grand opening.

Re: New LEGO store opening near Toronto
I'm guessing the mall info. is only tentative. I'd probably go with the actual LEGO site dates as the official grand opening dates. I'm just curious though, they didn't list anything "special" for Friday's opening day so I'm wondering if they are withholding information about that day to only those that actually show up that day? (Perhaps a free LEGO item/gift to the first few customers???)
I can't imagine them offering a free minikit gift with a purchase for Saturday and Sunday and not have anything for people who buy something on Friday? But I guess the only way we'll know is to show up Friday of that week.

The Sherway page has been updated showing the grand opening dates:
Friday, May 13, 2011 to Sunday, May 15, 2011

Re: New LEGO store opening near Toronto
I actually spoke to someone from Guest Services at Sherway Gardens earlier today and they told me that the Lego Store's soft opening was supposed to be this past Thursday (the 21st), but for some reason is being delayed until possibly sometime this coming week. But yes, the official grand opening is on the weekend of May 13-15. She also mentioned that there may be some sort of grand opening-related event for the Lego Store held in the center court that same weekend. My guess is that's where the R2-D2 build will take place.

I've read on Eurobricks that the soft opening will be May 5th, and apparently that guy's sources was from someone who was an employee there.
Re: New LEGO store opening near Toronto
So... Anyone going to go by today and see if they are open?

An update from the same guy at Eurobricks said that the soft opening has been pushed back to the 10th, while the Grand Opening is still slated for the 13th.

Re: New LEGO store opening near Toronto
So I went to Sherway Gardens earlier today and THEY ARE OPEN. I asked a CSR when did they open up, he said that originally the soft opening was gonna wait until Wednesday, but they finished things up early so they opened up their doors sometime Tuesday afternoon. Tomorrow is the beginning of their grand opening stuff.
Today was the first time I was ever in an "official" Lego store. It's not a big store but to see all these sets was just quite a sight. They had a number of the big sets that they had built and were on display. It was cool to see sets like Tower Bridge, Death Star, Grand Emporium, Medieval Market Village, and Shuttle Adventure in person and already built. Yes, the new modular building Pet Shop is also available for sale.
I was super tempted just to buy things even if they were full price just because of the availability. Held myself back...might be going to New York or somewhere in the US to do some shopping so I told myself wait until you get a chance to buy the sets cheaper over there.

Was there with my son tonight. Filled a couple of pick-a-brick cups, built some minifigs and picked up 2 new sets. Great having a store so close, probably most excited about the pick-a-brick though...

Not sure if linking like this is allowed, but if it isn't, let me know and I'll remove.
Looks like someone took some pics of the store when they went for a visit.

Currently in the lineup for Saturday opening. Got here at 9:30AM and the store was already open! Grrr! Store hrs said 10AM. Either way, the lineup to get in is past the main square where the R2D2 is being built. We'll probably miss the min-figure giveaway. Oh well.
I can almost see the store!!! Haha! I figure I've got another hr or 2 in line.

Re: New LEGO store opening near Toronto
I found that lots of freebies were given out.
1) Free minifigures box set, which included three minifigures in city theme.
and
2) T-shirt. A hockey player from CMF4 has been printed at the back of the T-shirt.

Re: New LEGO store opening near Toronto
Was at the Sherway store last night. They were doing minifig speed building contests for both kids & adults - how many complete minifigs could you assemble in 60 seconds. Everyone who participated got to keep one of their figures while the winners got to keep 3.
Also, they had grab bags, which I had never seen before. I saw them a bit late, and another guy grabbed all of them (4) off the shelf, but as I was checking out I noticed someone else had put one back so I grabbed it - was 11.99 but was mostly wall parts (lot of 1x4 green tiles and 1x4 brown tiles) and some technique parts as well. No minifigs or anything too unusual, but kind of cool none the less.
