[Suggestion] Which train should I buy?

Post by ilovelacus » Tue Jul 20, 2010 9:35 pm

Hi everybody.

I am new to LEGO Train and now I have 2 options:

1. the old 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe with old remote, motor and battery box
2. the new 7938 Passenger Train with new PF remote, motor and battery box

In my case, I could get both in roughly the same price and I am not sure which one to pick from.
Will the PF better than the old RC Trains? Any experienced train players here can comment on this?

Many thanks

Not a train fan here but the new train sets look much better than the old ones. But if you can get it at the same price, the cargo train may be a better deal.

Id say the 7898.
More minifigs.
More pieces, especially track.

But have no experience with either, was a 9V fan, so cant say if there are any problems with the old style RC.
I have inoperable cancer and am unable to work. Any gifts would be appreciated. Thank you!

I'd go with the newer one, simply because all future train sets will feature the newer pieces. Unless you're into having the older sets, I think it makes more sense to go along with the newer set because it will be compatible with every other new train set in the future.

thanks everyone for your advices!

hmnn...so I refined my choices:

1. the old 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe with old remote, motor and battery box
2. the new 7938 Passenger Train with new PF remote, motor and battery box
3. Get the Emerald Night + the PF motor sets separately
4. old 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe + PF modded ( buy separately ) <-- is this possible?
5. Get the Emerald Night + RC Train motor set separately <-- is this possible?

I would go with the new trains since it has all the new pieces and will work with future train sets later. TRU has all the train sets on sale (except cargo train) so it would be a good time to get it now.

are you talking about Toysrus US?

I am in Canada : (

Can I buy on toysrus.com and have them ship to Canada?

Or I have to purchase on toysrus.ca ?

And does anyone of you know if it cheaper to get the individual parts to bring a train instead of buying a whole set?

Honestly its probably some complicated import/export/tax/bs reason. Either LEGO doesn't have as good of deals with shipping to CAN or importing LEGO to CAN is more expensive. There's a large number of reasons that it might be more expensive but LEGO will never explain it to you.
