Do you mean the best set that LEGO has ever made? Or the best set that I have ever owned?

6090 Royal Knight's Castle. The only castle I would own until a year ago when I bought King Castle's Siege.

Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium. I don't know about the others since I don't have them yet.

I think some of the best sets, are NOT in fact those huge ones. I like the Modular Buildings, but I think stuff like the Death Star really isn't as good as some of the smaller stuff.

My favorites from old style:
1. 6986 Mission Commander*
2. 6086 Black Knight's Castle
3. 6973 Deep Freeze Defender*
4. 6195 Neptune Discovery Lab*
5. 6090 Royal Knights Castle*
Some people like those years, some don't. I love them. Anyways, I think that the older style was best shown by Space and a few of it's Castle themes.
My favorite modern ones:
1. 852293 Castle Giant Chess Set
2. 7094 King's Castle Siege
3. 8734 Brutaka*
4. 7781 The Batmobile: Two Face's Escape
5.7097 Troll's Mountain Fortress
For those years, I think Castle (2007-2009) really shone through, but BIONICLE had a few great moments. A lot of really nice sets popped up as well.
