You guys need to see this! A blast from the past
As a reward to my son for his midterm grade report I promise to take him to Toys R Us to buy a small Halo Mega Bloks set. He is into Halo now and that's fine, I'm not a purist.
We enter the store and went by customer service without even looking. Straight to the Mega Bloks section. Then we go to the LEGO section and other areas. When it's time to go we head to customer service to check out and BAM! this is sitting on top of the counter.
I asked the girl how much, trying to be sneaky :), and she tells me it's not for sale; only for raffle as the sign says.
She said they found it in the stockroom while doing cleaning and inventory control. I was like what!!!!
The box looks sealed and the front looks great, but the sides and back are badly scratch; the UPC is gone.
It was surreal, I was not even into Lego when this sets was originally available in stores!!
Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

shaofcourse! You should give us the address of the store and we can all call in and apply for a card.dr_spock wrote:Did you apply for their credit card?

Well.....
I have to confess that I did not apply for the credit card; I already have 2 credit cards.
**( Duck for cover; waving the white flag)**
I don't want to overload my credit history, and while the sets is tempting it does not persuade me to open a third credit line.
The set is nice, but not that extra nice that will make me sign up.
Now if it were the Slave I, any of the old Modulars, or the UCS Star Destroyer I would have done it.

Re: You guys need to see this! A blast from the past
My TRU store doesn't do anything this cool.
Re: You guys need to see this! A blast from the past
By law they MUST have a way for people to enter without having to spend money and I'm not sure applying for a credit card qualifies. Just my thoughts.
Re: You guys need to see this! A blast from the past
You don't have to spend money to apply for a credit card. My TRU card does not have an annual fee, so I doubt there has to be any money exchanged in this case.
Re: You guys need to see this! A blast from the past
Sometimes a rare or old set pop-up from time to time at toys r us . Last month, I saw one set for starwars Jabba Palace on shelve for $150 (Canadian $). The store that I refer to is located in Montreal, Canada. Whenever I go to that store I check the Lego section as usual, but I wonder if there is some old set there.

You should have just grabbed it, taken it to the nearest register with the youngest kid, and bought that sucker before anyone noticed.
Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?
Re: You guys need to see this! A blast from the past
I saw this also in Toys R Us Orange Park,FL.
Re: You guys need to see this! A blast from the past
How awesome! I'll open a credit card remotely for a chance at that Very cool find!
Re: You guys need to see this! A blast from the past
Unbelievably cool. I would have applied for the card in a heartbeat for a chance to win this beauty.

what do you mean by law it can't be without spending money. people buy raffle tickets all the time.that guy wrote:By law they MUST have a way for people to enter without having to spend money and I'm not sure applying for a credit card qualifies. Just my thoughts.
Also can I just apply for the card and not be approved by entering to low of income or something and still be entered into the raffle. LOL.

You are correct. That's the location!SlickP wrote:I saw this also in Toys R Us Orange Park,FL.
The store associate told me, that even if I don't get approved I will be entered in the raffle anyway.mattlee1965 wrote:Also can I just apply for the card and not be approved by entering to low of income or something and still be entered into the raffle. LOL.
It was very tempting indeed, but at the end I decided not to apply. Good luck to all that sign up.

If I was the Dirstrict Manager, heads would roll. That set has been written off the books years ago as shrink...

Notice in most states, the raffle is being held by a school, church, volunteer fire station, etc. Non-profits are exempt from said law.mattlee1965 wrote:

Is that why the UPC code has been removed so it doesn't get reinventoried?kbsig106 wrote:If I was the Dirstrict Manager, heads would roll. That set has been written off the books years ago as shrink...

Holy smokes!! What a find!
Re: You guys need to see this! A blast from the past
You have to see this Toys R Us and you would understand how this could be found in the back. The store looks exactly the same as when it opened, probably back in the 80s or something....kbsig106 wrote:If I was the Dirstrict Manager, heads would roll.
