Amazon UK LEGO Passenger Train on sale for £67.25 ($97 USD)
Amazon United Kingdom currently has LEGO City Passenger Train on sale for £67.25 (reg.£102.99). As always, free shipping with no minimum purchase for Great Britain and Northern Ireland and free shipping on orders above £25 for Europe. Prices includes tax already.
International Shipping Available for this item with 16.7% tax discount. Works out to be about 25% off US retail or 45% off Canadian retail after factoring 1.6 US and 1.58 CA exchange rate.
Price for a Passenger Train Set
•USA/Canada: £56.04 + £4.95 shipping = £60.99
•Outside of Europe: £39.33 + £22.58 shipping = £78.62
•Europe: Base price 1-2% VAT difference + Free shipping
•UK: £67.25
Don’t forget that each additional item only cost an extra £1-2 for shipping. If you are outside of Europe, we would definately recommend buying more than just 1 item as shipping for the first item is very expensive. They also got Monster Fighters Ghost Train on sale for £43.69 and Vampyre Castle for £59.99. More of their hottest LEGO deals can be found here.

Re: Amazon UK LEGO Passenger Train on sale for £67.25 ($97 U
This is tempting but I worry about the duty being added on top. A quick search from previous threads, it seems like Amazon UK ships via UPS and they'll charge a hefty price on duty plus HST on top of this for Canadians. The set will still end up being discounted but nowhere near the percentage it's at prior to all the duty charges.

UPS will charge a brokerage fee, but the duty is just GST (or HST), which is what you would normally pay here.
It's about 100 dollars (total after shipping and conversion), but if UPS adds an additional charge, it will be $5 for GST (more for HST) and $10 for brokerage (pretty close to what Canada Post will charge if they collect the taxes). Overall, it's $115 (to Alberta) vs ($179 after GST), which still amounts to about a 35% discount.
And of course if UPS doesn't collect the taxes (it depends on the amount of the item, but I think this item will be taxed), then the savings are closer to 45%.

For smaller sets Amazon UK uses DHL (so Canada Post is the Carrier) but given that this one is heavy, I would think they will use UPS.

I received my package (via UPS) in 2 days and my credit card was charged just under $100 CDN. I had to pay the GST (under $5) and Brokerage fee($10 + 0.50 GST) for a total of just under $115 CDN. Nice deal!
Would've been nice to avoid paying the GST and brokerage (DHL/Canada Post would've likely waived the GST + brokerage), but then again, I would've gotten it in abotu 3 weeks, as opposed to 2 days.
Thanks TnB!

Took too long to think, price for the Passenger Train has been increased to £86.09. Was tempted but that set wasn't a priority to me, was kinda like "oh it be cool to have". Would have been my first motorized train though.

So I pulled the trigger on this finally...but just wondering for you, were you home at the time of delivery? If not, what happened?brickity wrote:I received my package (via UPS) in 2 days and my credit card was charged just under $100 CDN. Yes I was home, so they copied down my credit card number and obtained a signature. If you're not home, they'll leave a notice on your door and you'll have to go to the nearest UPS pickup center to get your package. At that time, theyll collect the GST/HST plus $10.Toronadian wrote:So I pulled the trigger on this finally...but just wondering for you, were you home at the time of delivery? I'm not sure if you checked your tracking, but Amazon UK uses both UPS and DHL. It's not always consistent, so yours may have shipped DHL. If so, you'll probably get the package in 2-3 weeks and if you're not home, it'll be left on your doorstep (most likely). I've only had DHL/Canada Post charge me GST+brokerage once... but the package was valued over $200... I've had several packages over $100 with no additional charge from Canada Post.

My Passenger Train just came now, was shipped by UPS. I had to pay $11 for brokerage and then an additional $12 for GST, so I had to pay $23 at the door. Altogether, it came to about $120. Still much better than the $170+tax if I was to pay retail in Canada.
