Just ordered two sets from Amazon UK for a total of $148.05 (at current exchange rate as of 10:30 am PST). At $74 a piece, that's approx. 38% discount off retail. Would have liked to have gotten the %40, but I'm assuming it's because of the fluctuating exchange rate. I was charged the same shipping rate wether I bought the two sets of just the one. So, if your budget allows, buying more than one set is the way to go. If I had only purchased one set the cost would have been close to $80. I actually saved a bit more per set by buying two of them.

^crazy how that works. i just ordered one, and the calculator i used said $73.03 for 46.61 pounds. . $7 difference in less than an hour. i assume we're using different exchange rates, and i won't know for sure until i see the credit card bill. THANKS to brickity.

Only if it gets inspected by customs but odds are that you won't have to pay.

I would say about 75% of what I order from Amazon UK or France ends up coming in damaged boxes. They just don't pack them adequately for what DHL puts them through.

I read about the possible damage/import tax issue after ordering one of these & hope it arrives smoothly. I've been on the fence forever with this kit & finally took the plunge. Have to admit I'm in a happier state of mind to finally make this part of my collection (next: death star? tower bridge? MORE MORE MORE! never enough sets!)

Just to clarify - while most of the LEGO I've bought has had the packaging damaged to some extent, the product inside the package has been fine so far. If you are buying a set to build it, and don't care about the condition of the package, you have nothing to worry about.

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about any import taxes into the United States. First: items imported for personal use (as opposed to commercial use) are generally exempt from import duties. Second: Even for commercial use LEGO toys would fall into a tariff category that has a 0% duty.

I agree - I've had the same experience ordering from Amazon.fr. Since we primarily buy to build, it hasn't been an issue.

In US, you shouldn't be charged any customs. Amazon.com doesn't charge tax for most states so I don't see any reason why they will charge you tax. Maybe even the states that gets tax charged from Amazon.com won't have to pay tax ordering from Amazon.co.uk!

In Canada, you will get charged most likely with a $8.5 Handling Fee + 5 to 15.5% Provincial Tax on the item value (i.e 5% in Alberta, 13% in Ontario, 15.5% in P.E.I). You will not get charged on customs if the item value is very low.

In Europe, tax is already included in the listed price. In Australia, you are exempted from GST tax as long as your item value is below $1000 (excluding alcohol and tobacco). In Singapore, I think you will get charged 7% GST. In Hong Kong, there used to be a proposed GST tax. But due to protests, it was removed so you shouldn't get charged on imports.

Regarding condition of the boxes, my box of series 6 from France arrived in good condition. Larger sets however may have "damage box condition" due to shipping (because its usually placed at the bottom and other heavy parcels will be on top of it). Coupled with overseas shipping and long travel times, those boxes had to take a lot of stress.

So based on what I have read thus far anything ordered from amazon france, Italy, and the uk to the USA most likely will not be slapped with import tax? However the boxes most likely will be banged up to varying degrees?

In Singapore, I think you will get charged 7% GST.

In Singapore , you will only be charged 7% GST if the value of your order including shipping charges exceeds Singapore dollars 400. (Roughly 200 pounds)

I ordered 4 Fire Temples and I was not charged GST.
