Amazon.fr CHEAP Cargo Train EUR 96,23 (~$135 shipped)

Post by Tomatoe » Wed Oct 26, 2011 1:56 pm

After reading Amazon.com shipping to Canada, I tried the other Amazon sites and some Lego items actually ships to Canada!!! :shock:

I found a really good deal and its the Cargo Train (7939) set at Amazon.fr. The price is EUR 102,42 and shipping is EUR 10,59. When you go to checkout, you get an extra 10-20% off base price because of no euro tax. Final price with shipping is EUR 96,23.

Convert that to Canadian by 1.4, that is $134.72 shipped. If you do get dinged by customs, max charge is an extra $10-20 (so $145-$155) which is even cheaper than buying from America. Cost $240 here!!!!

did you end up going through with it? I just pulled the trigger; too hard to pass up almost 45% off. Passenger train also discounted but works out to be about 30% off.

the amazon.co.uk website also has the same deal for this train ending up around $137 after applying the 1.6 conversion from the british pound

Good find, almost everything ships! With the extra tax discount, its really like getting the euro prices shown in the listings plus free shipping.

I just placed an order for Winter Toy Shop. Paid £42.65 ($60) for it. Its just in case it gets discontinued before TRU has another sale. 25% off is not bad. Does anyone what is the max value before Canada starts charging duties?

I just received the shipping notice from amazon.com.fr and it states the shipper is deutsche post DHL. That method is guaranteed to incur custom fees and maybe even brokerage fees, so I would not proceed necessarily full speed ahead since additional costs could be more than the $20-25 quoted in the original post. I will have to find out on Nov 14 when I get my package how much these additional fees will be. I think I can absorb up to $30 total in additional fees and if any higher, I would not recommend this buy unless you are okay with paying only 10-15% off US retail. But in cdn terms, 10-15% off US retail is still pretty good for cdn since its 35-39% off cdn retail; however, not to the cdn buyer who has easy or often access to US sale prices and goods.

If it does not work, I guess I will hold on to it and hope that it increases in value like the previous cargo train deluxe.

Wow, imperial flagship ships for $162 and tower bridge ships for $216. Unbelievable you can get them this cheap. Only a little concerned about the tax after you mentioned the extra charges we may get. Isn't it only $5 + tax?

Imperial Flagship
Price: EUR 126,65
Tax Discount: EUR 105,90
Shipping: EUR 10,27
Total: EUR 116,17 ($162)
http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0032BC ... B0032BC3TU" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Tower Bridge
Price: EUR 169,15
Tax Discount: EUR 141,43
Shipping: EUR 13,00
Total: EUR 154,43 ($216)
http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B003Q6B ... B003Q6BQOY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Interestingly enough, the small or license sets tends to sell at a lot higher price.

typically its $5 plus tax on the value shown on the customs form but that's canadapost deliveries taking over from other international postal carriers like usps, etc. However, carriers like fedex, ups, dhl charge brokerage fees when they take them across international borders. So its brokerages fees plus taxes and these fees are definitely greater than $10.

both the flagship and tower bridge are good deals but too risky with the customs. I want to see how my cargo train works out before doing this again. Luckily I already have a tower bridge bought at a target for $167 us, and I bought a flagship already from ebay for about US retail ($180)

Thanks for the heads up! I ordered a Winter Toy Shop and City Advent Calendar as a "test", let's see how that ends up. If it ends up good, Amazon.fr will definately be my new favourite LEGO retailer. :-D
Also front paged!

Edit: Some of these items can't be searched in English because they are in French. I think these deals are the best after comparing them with retail here in Canada. All the rest are expensive and not worth it.

I did a little research yesterday after reading this thread and have come across several bad stories in regards to items being shipped to the USA. Reports were orders consisting of blue ray discs , DVDs and books ordered by US customers were getting sent back to Amazon.fr because DHL could not confirm the buyer's address. Other posts in regards to Canadian customers of Amazon.fr said they were slapped with brokerage charges around $26 two months after receiving their goods. Don't forget to factor in the taxes. I'm definately interested in hearing the results.

Thanks, brokerage fees of $26 is acceptable to me if that's the only hit but if added to the $17 of taxes for the cargo train, then this is just getting it at US retail without the taxes...not a good experiment...but I had to pay to see...

Even though the majority of us is from Canada, I'm going to move this thread to Europe Sales & Deals Forum because the retailer is based in France.
