Downtime today

Post by Toys N Bricks » Fri Apr 13, 2012 12:46 pm

We apologize for the downtime earlier today from approximately 7am-3pm PST. Our site has outgrown the server capacity, thus the account suspension. So to answer all the questions we've been receiving, your account did not get suspended nor did LEGO shut us down. We're now working on the details with our webhost to prevent this problem from arising again.

I should have checked the site first thing in the morning. Really, I shouldn't be enjoying my day at the soft opening of the Vancouver LEGO Store when there's this big of a problem at Toys N Bricks. Not quite sure why I went there as everything was full price and no promotions, but I guess I was just too excited!

I thought there was something wrong with my Internet, like I didn't pay the bill or something

Everyone needs a little time off  now and again.

In certain respects, outgrowing bandwidth thresholds can be seen as a good thing ;-)

Don't be so hard on yourself, you deserve to enjoy a lego store opening, full price or not. ;-)

I'm so glad everything is okay. Was very worried that something bad had happened.

But growth is a good thing! :-D

I'm not going to lie, I panicked as I attempted to refresh the three T-N-B pages that I always leave open and they all informed of the "Account Suspended". It is very true that you do not always see what you have, until it is gone.

I think it had something to do with the fact it is Friday the 13th! ;-)

Thank you everyone for your comforting comments. :)

Our site is currently being moved to a new "faster server" as a test. In case they suspend us again without any notice like today, please rest assure that we're not shutting down. Just so there's no surprises, the worst it can get is that they'll suspend us again causing our site to be down. If the new server doesn't work out, we'll move to a dedicated one.

Wow, I thought it was just me and I hadn't payed my membership money yet. What do you mean there isn't a membership fee? Am I the only one sending in a check every month?

Totally freaked me out. I thought that my IT dept suspended me from going to this forum until I checked my cell and the same thing was happening. This place is like crack. I need my fix. :-D

I'm so glad you guys are back up! It is still worrying though that your host can just suspend your account like that with no previous warning! I mean; if TNB has been getting too big for the server they should have let you know. Or was it some unusual spike? :???:

Yes, we were down for about 2 hours from 8-10pm PST. During that time, the site was being moved to the new faster server.

EDIT: I still don't trust the fast server, hence, we're going to go the dedicated route.

I see... You should extend the contest deadline just because some entrants may of have not had the chance to submit their entry when the site was down.

Don't know if this is just my computer or not, but the site and forum was down today again. I was out so I am unsure about the time span of the downtime.
