Re: [B&N] Buy 1, get 1 50% off - 10/12-14
Just got back from Barnes & Noble. The 20% coupon ended up being a transaction level coupon, and it stacked with the BOGO 50% which I wasn't expecting, so I got a Jabba's Sail Barge and Republic Gunship for $96 and $48! Plus 20% off all my other items.
Re: [B&N] Buy 1, get 1 50% off - 10/12-14
B1G1 won't work on Architectures.
so previous poster, you saying the B1G1 stack with 20% off 1 item? or 20% applied on all items?

Just a word of caution, the FRIENDNFAM code is 20% of ONE item, so you get basically 10% off your entire order of two items.
So it's not (b1g150) or 25% off two items + an additional 20% off those two items, it's more like 35% (25+10) off your total order, not 45% (25+20) as I was hoping.
Then I have sales tax of 7% which knocks it back down to 28% off which you can find Amazon deals that hit that level.
Still an excellent find for HTF/non-Amazon sold items, but not as blockbuster as I thought it would be :(

Almost all B&N coupons are only good on one item, but it should come off the most expensive item. I've edited the front post.
So when you pick two sets, say $50 and $50. It really is $40 (20% off) and $50 with 50% off the lower one so $20. It would be $70 for $100 of sets or 30% off. With membership it is $63 or 37% off
If you pick $50 and $40, it would be $40 (20% off) and $40. With bogo, $20 and $40 = $60 for $90 of sets or 33% off. With membership it is $54 or 40% off.

The FRIENDNFAM, takes 20% off the highest, but the BOGO50OFF takes it off the lower, so it ends up being even less.
In-store the deal is MUCH better than online unless you live in a sales-tax free location. With sales tax and no in-store 10% membership, it's an average deal and BN online search is awful since it puts all the 3rd party sellers with the BN sold items. Since B&N is never below MSRP to start, I'll pass on this deal as it's sub 30% unless you go instore.
By comparison Target's deal was much better. The deal is over of course, but that that amounted to:
+20% (many items 20% below MSRP)
+15% (BOGO30)
+10-13% ($10 off $75-85) gift card
+5% redcard
-7-10% sales tax
-------
43% off

Yes, better in store because you can't get the 10% membership discount online (just free shipping on any size order).
My example above is to illustrate you do not have to buy two same priced sets to get the best deal.

I was at one near me today. I didn't really see a great selection of stuff. I asked the lady that checked me out at the counter if anyone had come in and bought a bunch of stuff. She said no they have not really sold a lot of lego today or yesterday. She directly me to another store that might have a bigger selection of stuff. Will try to stop by there tomorrow, but not holding out hope.

I was just in there a fer hours ago and they did honor the coupon. The cashier did not read the any of the info on the 20% off coupon so maybe that makes the difference. I just handed her the coupon at the very end hoping that she would just try it and that is what happened and it worked.legohunter wrote:It seemed the deals were not stacking. I picked up two of the Friends 3315 Olivia’s House sets for a little over $90.00 for both after the BOGO 50% + Membership 10% off + the coupon = a good deal.

Very good point! (I have 2 Sail Barges on hold for pickup tomorrow - now I have to figure out if there's a different combo that would yield a better deal...)atmail35 wrote: My example above is to illustrate you do not have to buy two same priced sets to get the best deal.
Re: [B&N] Buy 1, get 1 50% off - 10/12-14
B&N coupons don't work this way. The 20% coupon takes the 20% off the highest priced item, AFTER all other discounts. 2 $50 items would be $65, not $70. So two identically priced items will always be the highest discount. However, with this coupon, it's taking 20% off of every item. Surely a mistake based on the wording, but who knows if they'll fix it or not. I picked up the Dolphin Cruiser + Creator Family House for $75.54, very close to buy one get one free.atmail35 wrote:Almost all B&N coupons are only good on one item, but it should come off the most expensive item. Actually, I did it twice today and both times the 10% came off first, then the 50% and finally the 20% on the one that was higher. So, for two $50 sets it works out like this... $5 off each for the 10%, then $22.50 off for the 50% and finally $9 for the 20% or a total of $41.50 or 41.5% with membership. Without membership, it would take off $25 for the 50% and then $10 for the 20% for a total of $35 or 35%.atmail35 wrote:Yes, better in store because you can't get the 10% membership discount online (just free shipping on any size order).

I checked both receipts and this is the way it printed out both times. My coupon only took 20% off the highest after all other discounts.

Re: [B&N] Buy 1, get 1 50% off - 10/12-14
the bn.com website applies the 20% to the higher set after the BOGO. I believe there is only two sets now that can accept stacking of the bogo and the 20% coupon. ie the master builder sets.
an example based on checkout for 2x$80 master builder set
they give you the BOGO first, so $80 + $40, then they apply 20% off the higher which is $80 and in the end we get 64+40= $104
one can say 20% was applied first so you get $64 but the bogo 50 is applied on the original price not the $64 so you get $40 instead of $32. Comes out to $104 and not $96... too bad.

Re: [B&N] Buy 1, get 1 50% off - 10/12-14
Sounds like a YMMV situation with how the coupon stacked, but for whatever reason in my local store the coupon took 20% each of my items and then did BOGO on the sets. Paid <$150 for the Sail Barge and Republic Gunship. Got a good amount left in my LEGO budget for Christmas now. (This was especially great after not being able to use my 10% coupon at the LEGO Store to get the Ewok Village; I had been planning that for months.)
Re: [B&N] Buy 1, get 1 50% off - 10/12-14
It's irrelevant what and which gets discounted first, the end result is still the same.
I did not get two items knock down with the 20% coupon, you guys must have gotten lucky.

Re: [B&N] Buy 1, get 1 50% off - 10/12-14
I stand corrected. I'm surprised that the BOGO is applied to the higher (i.e. one that did not get the 20% off, assuming only one item was discounted 20%). I swear in March it did not work in this order in-store when I did it.
BUT if it is taking 20% off your entire purchase, that is good news!

It's quite simple.janckson wrote:Show me your math.stevebuscemi wrote:The end result is not the same actually.janckson wrote:It's irrelevant what and which gets discounted first, the end result is still the same.

Buy a $100 and a $1 item (to show you the extremes):
You get 0.50 savings (BOGO50off $1) plus 20% off $100 = total $20.50 of $101 or 20.2% off.
Buy a $50 and a $50 item
You get $25.00 off (BOGO50off $50) plus 20% off the $50 item, $10 = $35.00 or 35% off.
The percentage isn't that bad with say a $50 and a $75 item, but it's always better to get two of the equal price as the difference is quite large, the farther out you get.

lol, barnes and noble is tricky. They will attempt to bogo only the low cost items if you bring a ton of legos to the front. last year i brought a bunch of legos say 80$ 80$ 40$ 40$ and they bogoed the two 40$ ones trying to make me pay 200$ for my stuff. I laughed at the cashier and told her to try again.

bn would not be the only ones trying to do that. Sometimes by policy the two lowest items are the ones that have to be discounted no matter it makes logical sense what you are doing by bringing two $80 and two $40 sets. To circumvent policy or automated checkout, just do 2 different transactions if it does not affect the savings.
