I don't look at it that way. LEGO has certain price points for the sets and they pack what they can in those price points. I think a $150-$200 in US for a police station set would not sell very well to the general public. There's a reason why creator modulars and UCS sets don't make it to the general retail shelves.dulait wrote:Very iconic set for both Lord Of The RIngs and The Hobbit. But I never liked the open end designs, for a smaller set like this it is ok, but The Tower of Orthanc with the open back really discourage me on getting the set. And with how lego designers are serparating sets like Jabba's Palace plus Rancor's Pit, or two of Battle at the Black Gate to complete the actual gate. It really scares me if they will do say front of a police station for one set and back for another, so we need to buy two in order to complete the station. Good business for them, bad for us collectors.spartyjones wrote:I went back for Unexpected Gathering last night. That set is too good to pass up. Very interesting build so far. Re: [USA] Walmart LEGO Clearance Summer 2013
My point was, I agree that modulars and UCS are too expansive for the general public and therefore I hope Lego will not start spliting up sets like a $150 police station will become two sets, one for the front of the station and one for the back, each retail for $60-75.dilbert12 wrote:I don't look at it that way. Wal*Mart Summer 2013 Clearance
I visited 3 Wal*Marts in Lynchburg, VA today. Most of them had the same clearance items, mostly around 1/4th to 1/3rd off of original price. Certain sets were:
First-wave DC Superhero sets, like The Batcave for $50 and Lex Luthor's Power Mech for $13
Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout for $35
Most LOTR sets on sale (Gandalf Arrives $9, Weathertop $40, Mines of Moria $54)
Some Hobbit sets on sale (Goblin King Battle $69)
Vermin Vaporizer from the Galaxy Squad line was $40
Star Wars: Gungan Sub $40, Jabba's Palace $69, Sith Fury-Class Interceptor $45 (!)
The wave of city sets that includes 4437 Police Pursuit ($11 instead of $17) and 4432 Garbage Truck ($13 instead of $20)
Good luck hunting!

Has anybody seen the City Helicopter Rescue set on clearance at Wally's? Walmart exclusive to my knowledge.

Did you notice if any Monster Fighters were on sale? The walmart site has some MF sets at a reduced price, but I was just curious if you noticed any MF discounts in store. Thank you and have a great weekend.

Re: Wal*Mart Summer 2013 Clearance
The only one on sale was the Crazy Scientist and His Monster for $35, but for some reason that was the only set in the actual clearance isle. It's been on clearance for around a month or so at my store.brickmont13 wrote:Did you notice if any Monster Fighters were on sale? Re: Wal*Mart Summer 2013 Clearance
I found 9500 Sith Fury-class Interceptor for $49 at the Walmart in Newburgh, NY. I think they had Attack on Weathertop for $40. However, the one in Fishkill had a slew of "deals" like this one:

Re: Wal*Mart Summer 2013 Clearance
There is another Walmart clearance thread that has been going in the YMMV forum. Any chance we could combine these two?
Update: Thanks!

Oops. Didn't notice this separate thread!
Also, today I revisited a Wal*Mart and found the X-Wing for $40 (score! I've been meaning to pick that up on sale sometime) and some Brain Attack Hero Factory sets for $7 or $9.

Re: [USA] Walmart LEGO Clearance Summer 2013
Does anyone think I'll be able to find The Unexpected Gathering a little cheaper down the line. I spotted one for $49 at Walmart and was so tempted to pull the trigger but I generally don't for 30%. I could see this being had for less around Black Friday with the right combination of coupons at B&N. Any thoughts?
Re: [USA] Walmart LEGO Clearance Summer 2013
I found it for $35.00 at a local wal-mart. I picked up one to keep and it looked like they were going fast,
Re: [USA] Walmart LEGO Clearance Summer 2013
If you're a B&N member then the typical 10% off then 25% off (around holidays they have that) will still be a little over $50. It only drops to $47.21 with a 30% off. They start at $74.95 at B&N.

Hmmm...Maybe I should just spring for it then. There's also YoYo, where I think last month it could be had for around $37 after discount.

Re: [USA] Walmart LEGO Clearance Summer 2013
Explored some Wal-Mart's and Target's here in my area yesterday, and found a few sets for good prices.
I picked up...
One 6868-1: Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout for $35 @ Wal-Mart
Two 76005-1: Spider-Man : Daily Bugle Showdown for $35 @ Target
Two 9471-1: Uruk-Hai Army for $21 @ Wal-Mart
Three 9469-1: Gandalf Arrives for $9 @ Wal-Mart
Four 76007-1: Iron Man: Malibu Mansion Attack for $20 @ Wal-Mart
Not too bad I suppose.

Re: [USA] Walmart LEGO Clearance Summer 2013
Thanks to the walmart app. Was browsing around and saw a good sale. So I stop by and it was a massive discount that I can not believe. It was in one of the store in kansas.
I got 75004 hunter for $10
Samurai mech for $15
Hulk superheroes for $20
Superman lex wonder women for $7
Sonic ninjago thing for $40
New galaxy bug oblitirator $30
Some other stuff that was on deep discount. There were bunch of hobbit set but was just the regular discount. I was hoping it would be 50-70percent off. A quintet scan 60. Have to keep checking on this place.

Re: [USA] Walmart LEGO Clearance Summer 2013
WM on Hegeberger in Oakland this afternoon had a whole pallet of cardboard boxes containing clearance Hobbit sets at 30% off. Dozens of each set. Might want to move quick, they may be preparing to ship them out to another store or something
Re: [USA] Walmart LEGO Clearance Summer 2013
In Lisbon Landing Walmart last night I saw 4 very dusty Weathertops for 40 a pop. A few SW planets sets were there for 5-all the same I just couldn't tell you which one. I saw a big Bionicle set for about 20. Left them all.
