Right now, I always prefer buying off Amazon rather than an in-store purchase. Tax is a killer at TRU, Target, and Wal-Mart, especially on large sets. Plus via the Amazon card, I still get 3% back and I don't have to pay tax on top of that. It's like saving 10% over Target's 5% savings. If I buy from Target online, I do appreciate the free shipping perk.

Only 8 states currently collects sales tax from Amazon. By the end of the year there will be 10. By 2016 there will be (at least) 13. In any case, that still qualifies as "a few" when compared to 50 states.

very true, but in all honesty the 13 states that will be/are charging amazon tax is most of the USA population.

California
New York
Pensylvania
Texas
etc...

so its also safe to assume "most" amazon orders are currently being taxed.

very clever on Amazon's part to make it 'appear' they 'only' charge tax to 1/5 of the USA. but in reality its most of us.

It is only a few states at present, but those states do have more than 33 percent of the population. So the odds that a given person is paying tax on Amazon sales now are slightly better than is implied by "only a few states".

People, you do realize that even when you are not charged tax by Amazon or any other online vendor that does not collect taxes in your state you are required to self-report it on your state taxes and pay appropriate taxes to your state?

Amazon starting to charge taxes for any state in particular have nothing to do with their "decision" but more with states pushing them hard to do so. They have had distribution centers in Arizona for last few years so I am surprised they lasted that long tax free

I ordered mine early - around the time the OP opened this thread (he beat me to the punch by about 5 minutes ). I did not receive shipping confirmation until Saturday, and my package is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

My two shipped yesterday evening, in separate packages oddly. Don't these come 2 to a case? It would have been nice to have the protection of the original box - now I fear they shipped them boxless with just address labels slapped on the outside of the Lego boxes.

Mine also shipped in separate orders with the first one scheduled for delivery tomorrow. I've never had anything delivered from Amazon that wasn't in a shipping box.

Yeah, they will never send you the Lego box with a shipping label slapped on it.

That said, Amazon is notorious for other issues such as big ugly inventory labels slapped on the box, small inventory tags taped onto the box and general box crushing & creasing. It's the pain we feel for quick, free shipping.

Don't stand for any of the above, and simply log into your account and ask to return the items for a replacement - it doesn't cost you anything. the only issue you may have is if the items are out of stock, at which point they will only offer you a refund, not a replacement.
