Sweet! I have been waiting for a decent deal on this set for not only a second train but also more track and those switch tracks. Won't be saving this one for the kids for Xmas. This set will be OOA (opened on arrival)!

Its a great set. My 7 year old and I love it

Back up to $168.65, though you can still get the Passenger Train 7938 For $100.60 at Walmart. No switches, but still a descent looking train with true curved track you can only get in sets nowadays.

So happy to get all five trains currently being sold this fall. I wonder how many of them will be retired next year?
Re: [USA] LEGO City Cargo Train on sale for 23% off
I was confused for a second but I see that you are counting the Ghost train as the fifth. I don't own it, does it fit on the tracks?Marcus70 wrote:So happy to get all five trains currently being sold this fall. I wonder how many of them will be retired next year?
The Switching Tracks 7895 comes with 4 curves, not a pure curves sets as with the old 9v 4520, but still a good way to get some curves assuming you can sell the switches.tensor wrote:Back up to $168.65, though you can still get the Passenger Train 7938 For $100.60 at Walmart. The Ghost train's engine fits and runs perfectly on the tracks (you just need to remove two of the four swivels to allow it to bend correctly). The other three cars I switched out the wheels and added bumpers to make it compatible with our other RC trains. It's currently my family's favorite train since it runs in the dark with many glow-in-the-dark elements.lemus wrote:I was confused for a second but I see that you are counting the Ghost train as the fifth. WalMart put up some pretty nice sales tonight, but I guess they went fast... I missed the Maersk train at $96 between putting it in my cart and checking out. Got the Passenger Train for $96 and at the moment it's still available. Tower Bridge at $178 looked good if I had any interest in it, but I don't. There were other deals on pricier sets too, most seem to be sold out now.

Re: [USA] LEGO City Cargo Train on sale for 23% off
If I wanted to motorize the Ghost Train would the Passenger Train be a good place to start for the parts needed to do it? It seems like the current $96 price makes it a good deal, but Im not sure of what I need exactly to do it.
Re: [USA] LEGO City Cargo Train on sale for 23% off
Any of the current city trains (red cargo, yellow cargo and passenger train) you could use the motor, receiver, battery box and remote control to motorize your Ghost train (9AAA batteries are needed - 3 for the remote and 6 for the battery box, which I just use rechargables for). Note the passenger train is the cheapest city train set because it only has three cars (with only 4 bumpers) and lot less track, and overall parts than the red and yellow cargo train sets, so you will need to use "pick a brick" at lego.com to make all of the ghost train cars compatible (extra bumpers, bearings, wheels, axles, etc.).beartrapper25 wrote:If I wanted to motorize the Ghost Train would the Passenger Train be a good place to start for the parts needed to do it? Re: [USA] LEGO City Cargo Train on sale for 23% off
Awesome thanks for the response and info! My son has been asking that Santa bring him the Toy Story train for Xmas, and I was hoping to motorize that as well but the info on that link says it might be a challenge.
Re: [USA] LEGO City Cargo Train on sale for 23% off
No problem, yes indeed the Ghost train and Toy Story train do take alot more tinkering, than say the Maersk Train, since they both have small/narrow engines compared to the Maresk Train, which has all of the extra space needed to easily motorize the engine. Most people motorize another car (besides the engine) for the Ghost train and Toy Story train, but its up to you. :)beartrapper25 wrote:Awesome thanks for the response and info! Re: [USA] LEGO City Cargo Train on sale for 23% off
I pulled the trigger on the passenger train. I figure I'll be able to rob enough actual train parts off the passenger train to make it worth while. I'll just try to pick up a used TS train set, since he's not going to be super picky about the look of the wheels etc.
Re: [USA] LEGO City Cargo Train on sale for 23% off
Thanks for mentioning about the Maersk train dropping to $96 later that day. Walmart gave me price adjustments for my train purchases. :)ninjagoyo wrote:WalMart put up some pretty nice sales tonight, but I guess they went fast...
