For once TRU actually has a ok sale if you know the MSRP prices. I picked up the 3 Star Wars Series 2 planet sets which were marked up $2, but end up saving about ~20% still. Also picked up a bunch of CMFs Series 8 which are only slightly marked up at $3.19 so save almost 30% on those.

Sorry to hear so many people getting screwed. I try not to give TRU my business because of their questionable practices, but I can't pass up good deals.

My first online purchase from TRU was like a month back when they did the 15% off $50 or more LEGO sets. Did in store pickup and my order was cancelled due to none in my local store. I go there and they have like 15 sets of the one I ordered! I was still able to use a printed coupon to get the discount but ya... that right there means I'm done with TRU online already. I'll just use in store sales from now on which is rare with TRU anyway.

I picked up 3 blue base plates at $5.99 each (1 free, so that made each plate cost $4) and 3 of the series 8 evil robots at effectively $2.12 each. Not bad. Beyond that I didn't see anything worthwhile. Possibly the Cars Big Bentley Bustout 8639 at $59.99 each which would put them at $40 each if I got 3. Still, I don't think there's enough useful parts in it to make it worth the $40 each.

Now they are tempting me to go back to the store today with a $5 coupon. I'm tempted to pick up another mini crane with it which becomes 25% off that way. Or just use it to get another base plate for $1.

I picked up a bunch of series 7 and series 8 minifigures. The store had plenty for all. I am tempted to go back for more...

Where's this $5 off coupon come from?

Also, has anyone noticed that the online ad doesn't say B2G1 on "ALL" Lego sets any more? I wonder if they took out the word "ALL" due to all the complaints.

One more thing, check out the "list price" of the fire rescue 7942. It's $26.99, but you can get it for the sale price of $10.99 which is still $1 over S@H price. Would anyone ever pay $27 for that set?!?! TRU

The word ALL is still in the browser tab/window title.

Not that it matters, TRU will still tell you no, because they can.

Everyone can keep complaining but filing a complaint with your state's consumer affairs division is usually a 1-2-3 online step you can do as well as sending in a BBB complaint yields a bigger effect. Speak softly, carry a big stick. Takes no more then 10-15 minutes to navigate around. Toys R Us continues to run these false advertisements and interpreting at will of their sales promotion when its clear cut on the stated Ad. Either retract/change the ad (which they did eventually), but honor the sales. Stores like Kay Bee and many more retailers have been sued big time for such practice of raising prices during during sales or bait/switch. I'm surprised no lawyer lego fan have take this on as a case. I see huge $$$$ for the lawyers involved.

the details of the sale clearly frees them of any legal woes...
"This promotional offer may be modified or terminated at any time without notice..."
I have inoperable cancer and am unable to work. Any gifts would be appreciated. Thank you!

I'm not a lawyer, but a smell test of what they're doing is awfully foul and I'm not talking about just this promotion. Its a common recurring theme.

This whole time when you go the the details of the sale it has always said: "Excludes Ninjago, Technic, Friends, video games & accessories. Additional exclusions apply online. Free item must be of equal or lesser value to lowest priced item purchased."

I am not surprised the additional exclusions are the modulars/high priced items. I ordered Sun morning and saw this in the details section of the sale online. I am shocked how angry people are getting, as I am normally one to fly off the handle when I see/experience something not on the up and up.

The problem is that online, it doesn't say anywhere that additional exclusions apply.

That was cut and paste directly from the details page of the sale online...so yes they are posted quite clearly in the terms of the sale online...people just don't click through on the item page it seems where it says (details) nest the the sale offer.

I stand corrected. I never clicked on that link as none of the items I was actually interested in were included in the sale.

I concur with pumbaugh, this language was always there online for those that actually read the fine print. I discovered it Sunday AM while trying to order the two Winter sets for personal use. Obvious that they weren't part of the sale so I moved on. Was I sad, yes, but TRU has the right the charge what they want and I have the right to spend my money where I choose. There was even a link you could click to see which sets were part of the sale. Seems like a lot of people are pissed because they couldn't buy something cheap and them flip it on eBay for a profit. Well tough luck, move on.

It was in an email last night for TRU rewards members.

I agree with scatmanjack. Sometimes I read the messages posted on this site and wonder how many people actually collect lego on here, a lot of the time it sounds like a lego re-sale forum...

While i see your point and technically speaking, TRU has the right to refuse the Hard-to-find sets as they do say "additional exclusion may apply". However:

First, the statement "additional..." is hidden rather deep online. it is NOT our responsiblity as customers to dig deeper into their promo/system online. All we have is a "piece of ad paper". I do believe that the Lego Mindstorm set rings up as B2G1F in-store.

Second, i think that this argument of "additional ..." only works if we (the customers) have access to the internet. So, we can counterattack by saying "i receive the promo ad in the newspaper which does not exclude these sets X & Y. If TRU refuses to honor the ad, then show supportive reference for such refusal, else i call it false ad."

Just out of curiosity...has anyone who was issued a credit on the 3rd free item seen the credit show up on their bank statement yet?

From past experience with TRU the credit takes a while to show up. I had the product in hand before it showed up on my credit card.

Thanks, I was getting a bit antsy...wouldn't be much of a deal if I didn't get the $162 back for the free modular!
