Remember this is the company marking up Lego in order to hit misinformed shoppers.

No surprises there, really. I'd rather not spend anything at all than support TRU.

Earlier this year, they rejected a LEGO return because "it's a collectable". Even if it was, collectables are still returnable. It took a lot of arguing, before the manager relented, but she said "I'm flagging your rewards card so you can't return anything again". Lovely. I haven't been back. I even have $10 in reward certificates that I don't think I can bring myself to spend.
Anyways, none of this is a surprise. It's pretty standard for them lately.

It seems Exclusives are part of their "Master Plan."

Re: [USA] Toys R Us Buy 2 Get 3rd Free 9/16-9/22
So what reason you used to get the supervisor to do that for you?
Re: [USA] Toys R Us Buy 2 Get 3rd Free 9/16-9/22
After being hung up twice, left on hold for 20 minutes 'while they check with a supervisor' twice, and passed off to the wrong department once; I finally got an operator who honored the deal on some Death Stars only to have her computer "act up" which she claimed prevented her from doing any additional orders. Alas all my subsequent calls have been met with "we are sorry for the confusion but we can't stack offers".

This must have been some sort of fluke but I placed 2 orders:
3x LEGO Star Wars Palpatine's Arrest (9526) ToysRUs exclusive
and 3x LEGO Star Wars Jabba's Palace (9516) and they went through.

I think by Exclusives, the OP is referring to the "10..." numbered sets, like the winter villages, modulars, vw van, maersk train etc. Jabba's palace is not a TrUs exlusive. Fluke or not, you're not even getting any discount on that when the ludicrous TrUs price is 150 bucks and Amazon regularly sells it for 100.Nepenthe7 wrote:This must have been some sort of fluke but I placed 2 orders:

They were MSRP... $90 for Palpatine's Arrest, $120 for Jabba's Palace.amonument74 wrote:I think by Exclusives, the OP is referring to the "10..." numbered sets, like the winter villages, modulars, vw van, maersk train etc. Jabba's palace is not a TrUs exlusive. Early in the morning on the day the sale went live for a few hours both TRU weekly sales were stacking. meaning B2G1 stacked with the other online sale of 10-20% off.
This made the bigger ticket licensed lego products a good deal, even for TRU standards.
However now the TRU mark up is currently in effect negating much of a discount.

It took me about an hour tonight. My first 2 attempts I got CSR who would not help me place an order for 2 Death Stars and 1 SSD. My third attempt I got a young guy who helped me. He told me couldn’t over ride it. But instead he gave me 30% off my entire order. The total was $1096. I started joking with him and told him I just got married (which is true) and asked him for 40% off in a joking manner. After a few mins of going back in forth he said I will give you 35%. My order came out to be $758 total shipped for the 3. I figured I would share that they are doing the deal since I read in previous post they were not. He also was willing to give me 3 Death stars if I wanted them, but since I don’t have either I chose to go the route I did.

Sec. 238.0 Bait advertising defined.1
Bait advertising is an alluring but insincere offer to sell a product or service which the advertiser in truth does not intend or want to sell. Its purpose is to switch consumers from buying the advertised merchandise, in order to sell something else, usually at a higher price or on a basis more advantageous to the advertiser. I think I got one of those reps that really hate their job so she just passed the phone to the supervisor. I mean I can hear she sighing and moaning like there's no tomorrow.MitchMitchem wrote:Strange...I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told "There are no supervisors working during the weekend. You can call back at 8am EST on Monday and ask to speak to one"dimsumonly wrote:Yeah, same here. Got 2 Death Stars and 1 Super Star Destroyer for about $260 each including tax. Total came out to be $780.21 for all three including shipping. It was a hassle talking to first talk with customer service, compliant about it, then get transfer to the supervisor. Wait about 5 minutes so the supervisor can talk with their supervisor. Then they will admit it's their system's technical error and say they'll honor the promotion. Then they're transfer you to the customer service "specialist" where they'll take your order. It's just that simple. Overall it's a great deal.ryanb wrote:Got 2 death stars and the super star destroyer... thought for a sec the guy was going to let me get 3 death stars, but system said no :0)

I would hate taking customer service phone calls as well, let alone ones for TRU!dimsumonly wrote:I think I got one of those reps that really hate their job so she just passed the phone to the supervisor. Correct me if I am wrong thou. If they post the change to the coupon in the store that is acceptable, but they could also change the coupon coding online and post a change to the banner. That would then constitute a change in the coupon and stop all of the issues with the call center.

Re: [USA] Toys R Us Buy 2 Get 3rd Free 9/16-9/22
The only way to teach TRU a lesson is IN THE POCKETBOOK. We need to just quit giving them our business. We stop spending money with them, they stop the deceptive sales bottom line. Its up to us, complaining and then giving them our money won't change a thing. Customer service reps don't give a hoot. Our complaining means nothing to them. ITS OUR MONEY THAT TALKS. Just a word to the wise. I'm not calling for a boycot, just a more meaningful way to spend our money.
Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

I just got off the phone with them. I got 3 modulars and one was free. She said they will charge the full amount up front but then refund the free one after it ships. Total should be after $330 shipped after taxes for 3 modulars. I didn't have to argue with her. She just did it.

This morning I was told the free item has to be $99 or less. I was also hung up on when asking to speak to a supervisor.
Re: [USA] Toys R Us Buy 2 Get 3rd Free 9/16-9/22
Folks - you need to call your State's Consumer Protection/Affairs Department. It's illegal for them to say it is a Buy two get one free *sale,* but then raise their prices the day of the sale - which is exactly what they did. If enough people complain, the state can initiate action against TRU.
