No, they really shouldn't...legoSW88 wrote:The price difference between CDN$ and USD$ values appears to be getting smaller. This is long overdue since CDN$ is at/near par with USD$, and has been for long time. They should be same price imo.
Comparison:
Sept. 1, 2012 release - Haunted House (10228) $199.99 CDN$, $179.99 USD$
Jan. 1, 2011 release - Diagon Alley (10217) $199.99 CDN$, $149.99 USD$
CDN has VAT built right in, USD does not, sales tax has to be added to that $179 figure.
In addition, all taxes are higher in Canada, from personal to business, so that has an effect on the overall cost of items.

If the US isn't careful, we will soon have a VAT (I like how its called a VALUE added tax, some value) and our taxes will be higher than Canadas. In a few years those figures will be 179.99 CDN and 199.99 USD.
Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Curse my slow mailman! I am surprised to hear this... I figured LEGO would stop coupons now that they are approaching holiday season.scandell wrote:I picked one up today...i used the lego 10% off coupon that came in the mail yesterday! (even though it clearly said coupon is valid sept 3rd-sept 29. That with the zombie polybag set it came with...made this a no brainer.
And lets be realistic here...have you ever met an all-knowing retail employee? This set is not limited edition.
Now to wait for the one I ordered from S@H to be delivered, followed by the hassle of return/rebuy. Easily worth it as it as I won't purchase a set more expensive than this in Sept.

Nope, prices in Canada almost never include taxes (fuel is the only exception I can think of right now). In Ontario, the Haunted House would cost $199.99 + 13% tax for a total of $225.99.LegoFanTexas wrote:CDN has VAT built right in, USD does not, sales tax has to be added to that $179 figure.
I really hope the Haunted House isn't a limited availability item; I don't have a lot of cash lying around at the moment.

Actually Corporate Taxes are Lower in Canada (now around 15%)...and personal taxes aren't far off.LegoFanTexas wrote:No, they really shouldn't...legoSW88 wrote:The price difference between CDN$ and USD$ values appears to be getting smaller. The sale tax rate varies by province just like in the U.S. Also keep in mind that for my family of 4 we pay only about $136. month for Medicalcare, paid for by our employer. My friend in Portland said rates can be far higher.
Now I only buy Lego in the U.S. beacuse thats where all the deals are so I still hope the U.S. price stays low

Re: [US/CA] LEGO Promotions for September 2012
Quick question: Does the zombie car deal and free shipping go thru to the end of the month of September? I thought I read somewhere it ends on like the 21st or something. Maybe im wrong.

Can the Zombie promo set be obtained from the Lego store directly or only through Shop at Home?
Re: [US/CA] LEGO Promotions for September 2012
Can be gotten at the store. Got mine at the MMB earlier this week. :)tike316 wrote:Can the Zombie promo set be obtained from the Lego store directly or only through Shop at Home?

Re: [US/CA] LEGO Promotions for September 2012
Hi! Anyone have any solid experience with the October Lego Shop at home promos? There is a suggestion they have run double or triple VIP points and maybe free shipping in years past ?? I would love to get the Haunted House if I could find some way to save some money on it. Thanks!
Re: [US/CA] LEGO Promotions for September 2012
It's on the October calendar that it will be double VIP points in October. ;)

Free shipping may be a better savings over double VIP points depending where you are located. Plus right now you get a free polybag with an order.
Re: [US/CA] LEGO Promotions for September 2012
Yeah I think you are talking about Toys R US Bricktober deals possibly? Most of the time when S@H does a double / triple VIP points deal, they don't offer free shipping, and not a free polybag as well. Lego doesn't like to give away the house all at once :)
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

I ordered Monster Fights Haunted House 10228 and thinking of getting a couple of more different sets before the promo is over next week.

Just wanted to say thanks to the people who helped me figure out when to order the Haunted House. Got it free shipped and 2X VIP points by waiting till mid October. Looks great in my living room and probably got it as cheap as possible if $165.00 (counting pts. credit) can be called cheap!
