Wal*Mart clearance 2016

Post by brickster90 » Mon Apr 18, 2016 9:29 pm

Over the weekend I found a Creator Power Jet for $17 and Constraction General Kenobi for $5 at the Altavista, VA Wal*Mart. They also had a few Lego Movie Construction Mechs for $45. Today found Jestro's Evil Mobile at a Greensboro Wal*Mart for $40. Contemplated getting it, but it turns out some rat had taken all the pieces except for one bag.

Wal-Mart has been running random clearance quite a bit this winter/spring, some were storewide for the most part like $30 - Space Port, $30 - Imperial Assault Carrier, $54 Kylo Ren's Shuttle, etc.

Just last week I found $10 - Arctic Base Camps and $5 - Mountain Huts, so you never know.

Walmart puts things on clearance nationwide at a fairly "lousy" clearance price to start. Then the store manager is given a daily budget to spend on clearance items to move stuff out to make room for new stuff. They walk the clearance section with a little computer with a label printer and they allocate their clearance budget by marking items down to whatever price they want to get them out of the store. But they have a limited daily budget. So, literally, from one day to the next, an item may be 10% off on clearance and then be 50% or more off based on the manager's mood or strategy for moving stuff out. So, really awesome prices are generally hit or miss. If you have a gold mine store, good for you.

Good info, bigfatbrain. It explains several strange things that I've noticed.

Not a single bit of Lego clearance that I could find at the Hillsborough NC Walmart :(

I would have to disagree with you on a few points. The dept mgrs are given a monthly clearance budget, not daily. And, the newest clearance method Walmart has adopted is to markdown clearance items on a national level, usually around 30%, then go incrementally higher percent off after a few weeks. But, not all stores are included. In my area, I can see about 1/3 of my stores have not participated in the national clearances at all, even tho other stores have gone from 30% to 70% off months ago. These non-participating stores seem to be spread out evenly thru my area, so I wonder if certain stores were selected to still carry these sets. But yes, if you find a store with a dept mgr that wants to get rid of stuff, he can use his budget to do bigger discounts on top of the company-imposed clearance prices.

Wal*Mart in Winston Salem, NC had the new Tahu and Umarak the Hunter for $15, and Kopaka unity set for $19. Odd because they still had some of the original reboot Toa for full price. Also saw Tie Advance prototype for $30, Grevious for $25, and Imperial Assualt Carrier or Shuttle for $99.

Most Wal*Marts I've seen in the past few days have the Bionicle elemental creatures marked down to $5 or $7 apiece.

Found some Cole and Zane Airjitzu flyers marked down to $1 each. Oddly enough the Jay Flyer was full price. Note: this was at a Wal-Mart that isn't a supercenter and therefore doesn't have as much shelf space, so that is probably a factor.

I was just in my two walmsrts today and noticed Star Wars Lego clearance items. Imperial transport normally 120 was clearances at 69 and the imperial shuttle tydirium was clearanced at 49. Of course they were sold out. Tags were printed on 5/9/16. Good luck if you can find them near you.

Finally able to get over to the closest WalMart tonight; I found a tag for the Shuttle but none actually on the shelf. Nothing else beyond WM's usual "5 cents off" clearance.

I know it's a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone who picked up an extra Imperial Shuttle would be interested in selling it to me? Or a trade? Please PM me if so.

I'll keep an eye but I doubt I'll have luck.

I hope someone else can help you out.
