Border's in-store only coupon roundup (33-50% off)

Many thanks to the contributors here who have posted the Borders 40% off coupons. I went to a Borders yesterday to pick up a SW set, and was absolutely stunned by the level of mark-ups on the pieces. The one in particular I was looking for – 8095 General Grevious’ Starfighter – can be found here locally in the $45 - $49 range. Borders had this listed yesterday for $65, and with the coupon it came to $40. A slight savings, but 40%? Gimme a break! I was also floored to see their Series 2 minifigs were marked up to $4 a pop. I thought TRU’s mark-up was bad, but Borders definitely takes the cake. Anyone else experiencing this?

If you dig back into this topic (I've merged this post with the originating topic, as your post didn't really necessitate a new topic, nor did it really belong in the 'Sales & Deals' section) you'll see that the Borders markup is rather standard fare across the board - there are also a few tips and tricks throughout the topic on how to make the most of the coupon. There are certain sets that are good marks to utilize the 40% coupon on (generally those closer to MSRP, of course).

borders sometimes give buy $50 gift card get $10 gc free promo. you also get a personal shopping day for 10% off your total purchase. and there's border bucks too ($5 for every $150 spent).

but totally agree with you that general grevious ship is the worst value for money. mark up is $15 (highest per dollar) on a $50 base (lowest base for $15 mark up). i only get the slave 1 (highest base for $15 mark up) and wampa cave (highest base for $5 mark up) from borders because if i stack all the promos, i ended getting them for close to 40% off msrp. real 40%, not fake 40%.

for eg. slave 1 = $95 x 40% off = $57. $57 x 50/60 (gift card promo) = $47.50. $47.50 x 10% off = $42.75. that's 46% off. i didn't have borders bucks then...but if i did, then it's $37.75 or 57% off msrp!!

you just gotta be smart about it.

now that i have my borders bucks...i am going to get the plo koon's star fighter. $30 x 40% off = $18. $18 - $5 = $13 out of pocket. that's 48% off compared to $25 msrp. it doesn't get much better than that!

I can confirm they're at Borders in the Chicago Land area, can't really say which one until I pick up my Hogwarts Castle

The prices I saw were:

The Burrows - $75
Freeing Dobby - $15
Hogwarts Castle - $150

before the chaos about how ridiculous Borders prices are, just consider that for $20 as a Borders Rewards Plus or whatever it is you'll get 50% off these prices with a 40% off coupon, $75 for the Hogwarts Castle? Weeeeeeeeeeee. :D

That's why I mentioned getting back in line, as you can use all three coupons -- just not at the same time.

However, all the the coupons can be combined with Rewards+ (10%) and Personal Shopping Days (10%) if you have either, the 40% coupon becomes 46%, 33% becomes 39%, and if you do use the $2 off a CMFs2, you're now looking at $1.79 and below MSRP.

If you have both Rewards+ and a PSD, then you're looking at a pretty sweet 51% and 45% instead, and CMFs2 for a measly $1.61. :D
