Man, we were spoiled by the barrage of 40% and 50% coupons in the last couple of months. Seems like ages since there has been one. However, dunno about everyone else's Borders, but around here there isn't much left. Been wondering when they'll get new inventory with new sets.

While my local Borders keeps their LEGO shelves fairly well stocked, it's very much a crapshoot as to which sets they have available. Lately, it's been mostly Atlantis, PoP and Toy Story, along with more OT SW battle packs than you can shake a stick at ... none of which are all that tempting to me at 33% off.

Thanks for posting these. I used one yesterday along with a $5 reward to obtain the Creator Fire Truck for a little less than 50.00 OTD.

So have your Borders stores been restocking their shelves? Ever since I read the article that they haven't been paying their publishers I haven't seen any of the toy/Lego stock replenished.

Mine appears to be, notably the first wave of Bionicle 2.0-- sorry, Hero Factory sets last time I went in.

That's actually a chain wide thing, with the typical mark up on LEGO being 15-25%.

But don't let the higher prices fool you: in most cases, using the 33% coupon will still beat MSRP by about 20%. Similarly, the 40% coupons -- which have sadly turned into a rarity lately -- work out to be about 28% savings over MSRP.

Speaking of coupons... guess what time it is?!

Noticed that the email I received from Borders this AM lists an interesting exclusion:-
Borders Rewards wrote:33% Off the List Price of Any One Item, Excludes Toys and Games (Borders Rewards Members):
http://www.bordersmedia.com/coup/20110121sa33.html
(Emphasis mine.)

The coupon it links to is the same one I posted yesterday, which doesn't list Toys and Games as an exclusion, so curious to see if anyone does runs into problem using this coupon for a LEGO purchase.

In the coupon, it doesn't say exclude toys and games.

Yeah, I got a similar variation of that coupon in email before as well. IIRC it actually had a different promo code. I noticed the exclusion statement while standing in line about to pay. I just used the one linked from this forum instead (luckily they accept the coupon if you show them from your mobile device). I had no problems with it.

Has anyone here upgraded from the free membership to the pay version? What's the coupon book like?

The only coupon in there worth anything is the $10 off, but it's $10 off a $30 purchase (and that's $30 after any x% off coupons have been applied -- so a $50+ set with a 33% coupon), has a bunch of exclusions (gift cards, etc. don't count towards the $30) and can only be used during a specific time frame (currently, the last week of February).

All the other coupons are next to useless (x% off a specific series of books; a free cafe drink; etc.).

If you're seriously thinking about the upgrade, I'd do it online as they give you $10 in Borders Bucks instead.

Like the $10 off in the coupon book, the Borders Bucks are only valid for the last week of February, but there are no other restrictions on how you use them (no exclusions, no minimum purchase), which means you also have the option of using them to buy a non-expiring gift card.

I got suckered into upgrading back in October, I think. It was when I was buying the Lego Advent calendar with a coupon. Anyway, I was only offered another $5 in Borders Bucks and I did it. I've definitely broken even/made money.

It's nice on the clearance and sale stuff that you want and don't use coupons for since you get another 10%, you also get 10% off at the cafe so I'll go there and get a coffee instead of Starbucks.

It really depends on if you think you spend enough to cover the $20 (or $10 since you get 10 in BBs). I normally don't "believe" in paying for these kinds of things (i.e. like at Barnes & Noble), but in this case it was worth it for me.

It's 33% coupon time!

33% off - http://www.bordersmedia.com/coup/20110125sa33.html, exp 01/27
- Effectively 39% off with a personal shopping day or a Rewards Plus account.
- Effectively 45% off with a personal shopping day AND a Rewards Plus account.

- Usable online (for non-sets) as promo code BLG6976F

For additional savings, try PlasticJungle.

They resell gift cards at discount, and with the news about Borders likely heading for bankruptcy, more and more people are trying to unload their Borders gift cards at a very favourable discount to you.

As of posting, that's up to 15% of the gift card's value, which would effectively boost that 33% coupon to 43% off (48.7% for Rewards Plus members).

If you've got your eye on some big sets, it might be a risk worth taking...

I stopped at borders today and noticed they had restocked a bunch of new sets. They had some NinjaGO, Pharoah's Quest, some new city Police stuff, new Creator, and a couple of the Star Wars sets. Just thought some of you might want to know because I think there is also a 33% coupon flying around as well. The bad news is they all have their normal Borders markups so beware of the prices.

Awesome. What area are you in? Do you have any specific sets and prices? Thanks.
