Amazon America has made the first discounts on some of the just released 2015 LEGO sets. This includes the new Star Wars Wookie Gunship along with two new LEGO City Swamp Police sets. LEGO prices have really gone up in the last little while. Even with the discount, it only makes the price ok. The golden ratio of $0.10 per piece is rare now these days.
14% off - LEGO Star Wars Wookie Gunship $59.99 (reg.$69.99)
11% off - LEGO City Swamp Police Station $79.99 (reg.$89.99)
14% off - LEGO City Police Crooks' Hideout $59.99 (reg.$69.99)

To be fair you can still find the 10 cent a piece sets, they just will never be Star Wars or (for some unknown reason) City sets. For the price of the City sets you would think LEGO could use some different faces or come up with some new torso prints.
Re: [USA] First Discounts on 2015 LEGO Sets
I find that the price ratio for a certain set really depends on what kind of pieces are in there, not only if it's licensed or not. The ratio tends to increase when there are larger parts or more minifigures or unique molds, in order to recoup costs. Take any set with a bigfig for example (Hulk, Rancor, Darkseid, etc), or larger hull pieces (like the X-Men ship). Without those pieces, Lego could have priced much lower for those sets.
The mini modulars - at $20 those were a ripoff because they have mostly 1x1 tiles and studs. But it was a Bricktober exclusive so whatever.

Not to divert this thread -- but I wanted to mention that my local TRU had at least 50 mini modulars up past Christmas. They may still be there at the $20 price point.grymg wrote:The mini modulars - at $20 those were a ripoff because they have mostly 1x1 tiles and studs. But it was a Bricktober exclusive so whatever.
