Seems like Target, Walmart, and Kmart all have 50% off clearance sales immediately after Christmas, Kmart may start a little before too. Also Kmart seems to have half of clearance toys every 2 months which sometimes includes lego, sometimes does not. Lego clearance sales usually coincide with the lifecycyle of the sets or themes being clearanced with most sets having a one year lifespan from initial release. For example, the Monster Fighters theme was released in June this year, so around June of next expect to start seeing the sets currently on the shelf getting clearanced, possibly being replaced with an entirely different theme depending on the popularity of the theme. Ninjago sets are probably the hottest theme for Lego right now and they seem to be having a very tough time keeping enough stock on the shelves so I would advise picking those up at msrp when you see them on the shelf or waiting for a good online sale because those sets fly off the shelf, at least they do here in California. Also Target seems to do their summer clearance end of June, beginning of July. Walmarts seem to be very unpredictable in all but the Christmas clearance timing. Kmart has lately been doing online clearancing too, so keep your eye out but the additional half off of already clearance priced sales they do are better deals when you can find them. Just a few observations, I hope they help. Happy Hunting!

Something that happened this year seemed to make buyers' ears perk up: TRU ran their BOGO50 almost continuously through March and April. The theory is that this was done to clean out stock and make room for summer sets. However if next year there is not as much stock left over there will be no repeat sale. Hopefully Target will run more of the BOGO sales like they did earlier for Dino, HF and Ninjago. But as I understand it this was a pretty rare event. (Side note: I desperately wanted Destiny's Bounty during that sale and expected it to fly off the shelves; out of 6 copies they had at the beginning of the week they still had 4 at the end! Unbelievable!)

I updated the original post with some more detailed information. There's a gap from now until the end of november. Do any retailers do back to school sales?

I'm pretty sure that S@H typically does double VIP points in March & Oct each year. Not a huge deal, but if you are picking up some exclusive sets can be a nice bonus.
LEGO, it's not just a toy, it's an addiction... ;)

Thank you. I've added it to the first post.

Double VIP points in October might get me the Haunted house before Halloween at a slightly better price than MSRP.

Geoffrey the Giraffe (Toys R Us mascot) usually has his birthday sale around the third week in September. This has been Buy 2 Get 1 Free on LEGO the last few years.

Thanks, I've added to the original post. This is starting to be the exact resource I was imagining.

Aside from holiday sales how consistent are the other sales from year to year? I know TRU is having a Christmas in July sale right now, but there are no Lego really listed on sale other than reports of in store deals. Do they have one for each week in July?

The TRU B2G1 free was right on. And looks like double VIP is back for October. Any other predictable deals coming up for the end of the year?

The KMart 50 off clearance at the end of Sep (now ongoing) should be noted.
So should the one they had in June or July. I don't have my receipts handy to see what week that was, but we could check the old threads.

Now that TRU.com ships international, I'm kinda mad I missed this BOGO 40%. How often to these BOGO sales happen at TRU? Any way to predict when the next one will happen?

TRU has changed up their pricing strategy for the past 2 years I've been buying Lego. No sale ever seems to be the same. They used to have BOGO all the time in 2011. In 2012, they've done it 2 maybe 3 times, and always with restrictions on some of the best themes.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

So now that the holiday rush and clearances are pretty much over. Looks like the next sale to look forward to is Double VIP points from Lego in March. Anybody know of any other deals going on in Feb?
