[USA] LEGO Bricktober 2014 Mini Modular Sets - $19.99 at TRU

Post by byobu » Sat Sep 13, 2014 4:24 pm

I don't think you need to purchase anything you just have to be willing to pay a lot of $$$ for not a lot of LEGO.

I saw the fire house today on the shelf at the local TRU

and it is $19.99!!!!

This is TRU that we're talking about.

Although a bit expensive, I prefer buying these exclusive sets directly rather than spending $75+ for four weeks.

I wish S@H put their exclusives up for sale too.

I built the pizza parlour and fire station from my own pieces and online instructions (the other two were outside my parts capacity), and they really are great, cute sets. I think claiming they should be $10 sets is a bit extreme. $15 maybe...but then I remember the MiniModulars set which came with 5 (larger) mini buildings for only $80.

...regardless, these 4 will look awesome in front of the MiniModulars, in front of the Modulars. :-)

These aren't meant to be sold, people at Toys' R Us are just clueless. This happens every year and is probably hugely YMMV. They sell them for $20 so they can claim it's a $20 set you are getting for free.

I saw one on the shelf with sign and all.

If they are going to be sold individually, I think this is the perfect opportunity to send a direct message to TRU and TLG about these October exclusives; to start. I get the feeling that they think these are really cute and children will want them and parents will get them.

It’s great that they are selling them directly, this way we as customers have the power to let them rot on the shelves until they are force to lower the price on them. Letting them know that it’s completely unacceptable to overcharge money for small piece sets and to stop making underrated “exclusives” sets.

Because if they sell out this will only empower TRU and TLG to continue their business alliance even more and to continue to shove whatever products they want down our throats; forever silencing the opposition to these things.

Here is a golden opportunity to tell then “No, thank you. Try something better”

I posted the 19.99 set with the photo.

I forgot to mention that the TRU store is in the greater Los Angeles area, California.

BTW the piece count is closer to $.12 a piece not $.01.

Agree totally, if those that can build it, just build them with the instructions already supplied online.

Considering these are TRU Bricktober exclusives I'm surprised they aren't $24.99 or even $29.99 (I hope TRU isn't reading this thread and raises it's prices). LEGO ain't cheap and prices keep going up. We'll look back in a few years and say "that wasn't such a bad deal after all".

A $20 set of this size generally has three minifigures. I think I originally bought the research institute for the same price. I bought battle at black gate for $29 yesterday. This is not a good deal, and the modals look awful next to the other minimodulars.

Yeah, I really don't feel these are worth $20 each. Ouch.

One of my favourite things about the mini modulars is they are fairly easy to build with spare parts. I'm so glad the instructions are online! I wasn't able to duplicate the pizzeria perfectly because I was missing parts, but modifying and improvising is part of the fun!

I just saw the cinema set at my TRU and it's 19.99, I did notice it was set #1 on the side of the box.

These are cute but an easy pass since I have spent way too much lately.

Same here in Little Rock (see attached), but definitely YMMV... When I went to checkout, the cashier said the computer says they are not allowed to sell it until October. After some friendly persistence, she called over the manager that after a minute of checking it out, allowed the sale. She then told a Stock Boy to yank the remaining 2 off the shelf. Happy Hunting!

I found the same one as above in Georgia today. Same price tag that says BRCKTOBER and they had only the theatre on shelves. I didn't try to purchase it. I was shocked by how small the box was! I almost overlooked it entirely.

Local TRU had some on the shelves. I tried to buy one and they refused to sell to me stating they weren't supposed to be put out until Oct 5th.
