Thanks for the reminder about the LEGO Club page, I keep forgetting about that one. This one looks decent, we will try and go for sure.

Just phoned my local TRU and it's a walk-in event. No need to book in advance.

Got here right at noon with a line already formed. To win the raffle, you must be present for the 2 pm drawing. Sets were out in about 25 minutes.

Got to our store shortly after 11 am, there was nothing left. People had been lining up since before 9:30am apparently. My eight year old was not happy.

We arrived at our store at about 11:40, and they were packing up the table. You have to hand it to LEGO, their marketing machine is in full effect. I've had make and takes run out before we got there before, but not this fast.

Can someone please post instruction sheet number one from the event. I didn't realize there was two separate sheets of instructions and only grabbed one. I don't have the instructions to build a regular car. Please post them so my son can build it.

My TRU still had a healthy stock of parts at 12:30 and a steady stream of traffic.

There was a second TLM build event at BAM!from 2-4. Unfortunately, all the polybags were spoken for by 1:30 (!) so we missed out and headed over to the theater instead only to be turned away there, too. Sold out. :(

we probably arrived around 12:20 and it was busy. When we left people were still arriving. Based on the parts in the boxes, it seems like they didn't have a ton left, assuming they did not have additional parts under the table etc.

My main complaint was that they didn't automatically hand out the alternate build instructions. you had to ask for it and most people did not seem to know about it. In fact some kids appeared to have left the one "extra" piece you needed for the plane...but I guess if you don't have the instructions you don't need it. :???:

I agree that there is a ton of hype for the movie, I've never seen a TRU event that busy. also it seemed like the TRU website didn't really advertise it until just a few days ago.

we bought our tickets for a showing tomorrow to avoid risking a sell out, now to get there early to get good seats!

They weren't offering the extra piece - instead we were told it's a generic piece available in almost any set.

Our store had kids choose the car or plane model and passed out pre-packaged bagged pieces with a single instruction sheet. Car build was listed as 40 pieces and plane was 34 pieces. Haven't studied the instructions too much but a single 2x8 appears to be only unique piece needed for smaller plane set. Not sure why they didn't just give everyone a bag with all the pieces and both instructions... In the past, they have had the kids select bricks from boxes with a pick sheet. I like this model as it gives the kids an additional step with some simple reading and math...

The door prizes were a TRU gift card, LEGO Movie XBox game, and a larger LEGO Movie set. Must be present to win and several people missed having winning tickets called by not returning at 3pm for drawing.

They also had a Grand Prize that sounded limited to few stores. Trip for 4 to LEGOland California, stay at LEGO Hotel, Warner Bros Studio tour, $1000 American Express Card... Two tickets were called for people that were not present. On the third ticket a lady had the winning number. Wished her 'congratulations' as we left and she said she didn't even know there was such a thing a LEGOland.... Some people have all the luck... Enjoy that tax bill from IRS next year...

My local TRU ran out of sets around 12:45 but gave out mini figs from The Lego Movie to the kids in line who didn't get to build Emmet's car/plane. Thank goodness for the substitution since we had just left the LEGO store at the mall and found out they've run out of the movie accessory promo pack. Double whammy! But, at least my girls walked away with Wildstyle and Panda Guy minifigs! :-D Wish The LEGO Group would've anticipated such a high turnout for these events...
