[Contest] Winter Village Market Vendors Needed!

Post by vynsane » Sun Nov 30, 2014 8:05 pm

Winter Village Market
10235_alt2.jpg
Vendors Needed!

The Winter Village Market is looking for new vendors! Food, crafts, gifts, games - you name it, we want it! Any prospective vendors should supply plans for either TWO (2) small booths (sized 6x10) or ONE (1) large booth (sized 12x10). Design of the booths should follow the aesthetic of the Winter Village Market, featuring festive decorations, unique colors and snow, snow snow!

Contest Rules
  • Model(s) should have the same aesthetic as the free-standing Winter Village Market vendor booths or the game booth attached to the carousel.
  • Model dimension (maximum): TWO (2) 6x10 "small" booths or ONE (1) 12x10 "large" booth.
  • Minifigures: TWO VENDORS, and TWO CUSTOMERS total. For two small booths, each should have one vendor apiece. For one large booth, both vendors should be in the booth. The customers can be positioned however you desire, but there should be two and only two. They should all be appropriately dressed for winter, like other Winter Village sets.
  • There is no maximum number of elements. No counting required!
  • Entries must be completely new. (it cannot be from a past contest, event, etc)
  • Entries must be built with LEGO pieces. (no LDD, custom brands, custom stickers, other objects used)
  • Winners of our last LEGO Building Contest (dr_spock and citizen) are not allowed to enter.
  • All basic contest rules followed.
Submit your Entry
Entries can be submitted to this topic - only submissions that meet the guidelines specified there will be eligible. All Questions and Comments can be posted here, not in that topic.

Evaluation
  • Contest evaluation will be based on votes from members in a separate topic after the contest deadline.
  • If there is a tie, there will either be another voting round for the 2 contestants or the staff will make the final call.
Deadline: January 15th, 2015
Contest ends on January 15th, 2015 at 24:00 EST (January 16th, 2015 - 0:00 EST).
*All entries that fail to meet the above guidelines by the deadline will be disqualified.

Prizes
The LEGO Group has graciously sponsored the following prizes for this contest. Two (2) winners (the First Place and Runner Up) will each receive:
WVContest_prizes.jpg
One (1) copy of 10245 Santa's Workshop AND one (1) copy of 10235 Winter Village Market

Get those entries in! Santa's Workshop has surprisingly been sold out for a while now (and it's a great set, if I do say so myself) and Winter Village Market is fantastic as well! Had we been reviewing sets at the time, I would have rated it higher than Santa's Workshop, frankly.

My wife is interested, but we've never entered a contest before. Here's to hoping we can figure it out (although, I'm not too concerned, TnB is great!!!)

Is it limited to one entry per person?

Is that a maximum of 5 minfigures per booth? (So if you enter two 6x10 booths you can have 10 minifigs?)

Yes, this is always part of the basic contest rules.

To make it easier to understand and remember while building, I'm changing the requirements - regardless of whether or not you do one large booth or two small booths, there should be TWO VENDORS and TWO CUSTOMERS. That's the minimum AND maximum.

If you're doing two small booths, each should have one vendor apiece. For the large booth, both vendors should be in the booth. The customers can be positioned however you desire, but there should be two and only two.

What a great contest idea! If I was a LEGO Friend I'd have a frozen lemonade stand.

What's the rule on overhang? Can the minifigs stand off of the base, or do they all need to be on the baseplate?

The booth structure should follow suit with those in the image - so, no overhang of the 6x10 or 12x10 footprint. The minifigures can be wherever, but there should be room inside the booth for the vendor(s).

I have an idea for a stand but I'm not sure it fits in with the rules, but I think it will. So if I don't move far away from my LEGOs I'm really going to have some fun coming up with things. The random colors of Friends pieces might come in handy for this.

If you need clarification on anything, by all means ask questions - better to know now than find out later.

It's not that it won't fit the rules, it's just... different. I don't want to say much until I get something built.

Feel free to send me a PM if you're concerned about revealing too much to the general public, but want to alleviate any concerns.

It turns out my idea would be too big anyways. So my second idea will have to work... once I come up with it and get within 275 miles of my LEGO.

Any chance we could implement a more private polling system for voting on contests here at toysnbricks? I'd love to see who voted for what at the end, but watching the votes tally up live is nerve-wracking. :)

By the way, you know that I LOVE the contests here, and the whole site!!
