FS: Green Grocer 10185 550 shipped sealed

Post by cstojano » Mon Sep 17, 2012 5:05 pm

Hello
I have a sealed Green Grocer I am looking to sell. Asking below eBay prices for sealed clean boxed examples. 625 includes shipping within the lower 48 via the cut and tape method of priority mail boxes. Insurance is extra though.
Thanks

I doubt a lot of people here pay ebay prices :D

I'll offer $300. If you are interested in a trade I can offer Grand Emporium and Fire Brigade (2 for 1)

The cheapest sealed on Bricklink is $549 + $20 S/H. I would say you'd have to beat that in order to sell it quickly. $600 isn't cheap for that set. $500 would be cheap though.

Apparently not, yet people are still BINing sets on ebay for 625. Go figure. If I priced it too low I would be assumed a scammer. Go figure again.

FWIW, I'd do 550 shipped within the US. Thanks for the trade offer.

The people that buy on eBay are stupid sometimes. However, the sellers aren't making any more money, due to the massive fees charged (12% I think, when including Paypal). Double that of Bricklink (again, taking Paypal into account).

Yes I thought passing the cost savings to the buyer would help a sale off eBay, apparently not. This is why eBay is what it is, people pay more there and apparently enough more to make up for the commissions. Man I hate to pay them though. Bricklink is about 3% plus another 3% to paypal, so yeah its half the eBay+ pp rate. I think this combined with insane shipping will push us all back into the old days of local shows. I know in Phoenix we are seeing more local activity like this.

Your offer is very reasonable. I just sold one for $550 plus shipping, and it went quickly (NOT eBay). I hope you sell it quickly.

Well just take it to Bricklink and pay the 3%. And 3% to paypal which you would have to pay anyways by selling it here or ebay. I doubt anybody would buy it from you without the paypal protection.

If it is priced well on BL then it will sell.

And 6% is nothing compared to the profit you will be making on this set (more than 200%). So don't sweat it.

Also, I read your first post "the cut and tape method of priority mail boxes" I am not sure if that is what I think it is, but if so I highly recomend you don't use that method. Just buy (<$3) or find a large and strong enough box for this, use a lot of padding via bubles or light paper or airbags and send it priority mail or parcel post depending on how fast the buyer wants it. Using free priority mail boxes for purposes not exactly as intended could just cause more troubles and even if the postal clerk does not reject your package the protection given by small boxes just pasted toghether wont be as good as the one given by a sound unibody box. And who ever buys your expnsive set is not going to be happy if the box arrives damaged.

Yeah I have good boxes for them now. I wasnt violating their policy I dont think since I was still paying for priority mail. Brickset creeped me out. I used it once and got some strange message that made me feel uncomfortable, it seemed like an auto generated message of sorts.

If you create a 'want list' then sellers have an option of sending a mass email to anyone with a specific part / set on their want lists if you have it in your inventory. Maybe received something like that.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

I think it was the automated aspect of it. I like to know who I am selling to. I need to look more into it because eBay is killing me with fees. Oddly, this set is selling above 600 again which it was NOT doing before XMAS. In fact I think it dove down into the high 400s on eBay according to their tracking system.
