I use to play with Legos in the 1960s when there were very few specialized blocks or pieces.
I gave all of my original Legos away about 20 years ago to my older sister's son.
Several years ago, I started buying Legos as gifts to my younger sister's son
which got me interested in Legos agains when I saw how much the Lego
universe has expanded and how Legos fostered an open source community for
their robotics kit.
My main interest is in making mechanical models which move
or do something using Lego - hence most of my models are
powered by sort of mechanical tension/drive, electricity, or pneumatics.
So I have naturally gravitated to the Mindstorm NXT/RIS series,
Technic series, Lego Educational (Energy/Pneumatics) kits, and
the new Lego Train format (Red Cargo). I am also interested in
third party lego components (i.e. HiTechnic, Dexter industries).
I have my own workshop so if motivated I will build my own
customized lego parts(e.g. propellers, airfoils). I'm still learning
about all the specialized parts and how they work together...
