2014 LEGO Ninjago Sets: 70723 70722 70721
Update: The sets and pictures appear to have originated from Kmart.com. They're not available for sale yet, but they do have product descriptions and additional pictures for these new sets.
Images for some of the upcoming 2014 LEGO Ninjago sets have surfaced online. So far, three set images have been released including LEGO Ninjago Thunder Raider, Overborg Attack and Kai's Fighter. (via TheBrickFan).
From the background of the box, it appears that this new Ninjago wave will be in a City where Ninjas are combating against Cyborgs. What do you think of these new Ninjago sets? Were you expecting Ninjago to be like this?

The minifigures are very neat, but the little mech in 70723 is really disapointing being the long line of awesome mechs NinjaGo has had. 70722 is just bad, however 70721 is awesome for a $20 set. Very cool and sleek.

long live Ninjago

They look exactly as I'd expect them to look: Freakin' awesome!

Oh nice! The Ninja finally come with their hair pieces!

Wow.... these look... terrible. It looks like TLG completely stumbled and lost it's originality.
70723 - Looks like it's a smaller version of the Ultra Sonic Raider accompanied by an equally weak version of the Fire Mech, with a homage to SW battle packs and their random cannons/guns.
70722 - It's a ripoff of the Spider-Cycle combined with Shredder's Bike.
70721 - It's the bastard son of Jay's Fighter and the Old Republic Striker
I own every Ninjago set.... looks like I might decide to Bricklink the minifigs and not even consider the sets... first time even have considered doing that... even for TMNT... <shudder>

I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

They listened, they finally are giving us the hair piece, yet forgot about set design all together... wait, they did not totally forgot but simply switched the roles up a little, the black ninja have a robot, red ninja have a plane, blue got what black had, and green got a bike like red... interesting but lame. Make us wonder if they are running out of ideas? Maybe they should hire some of those Cusso guys, or even some of us on here, since I bet anything that at least one of us on here can design better looking sets than what is shown.Monkey Shuttle wrote:Oh nice! Lego lost their orginality a long time ago and now bases everything on mini figures.Luciant wrote: 70723 - Looks like it's a smaller version of the Ultra Sonic Raider accompanied by an equally weak version of the Fire Mech, with a homage to SW battle packs and their random cannons/guns.
The only NinjaGo set I own is Ultra Sonic Raider and I must say that set is very very very very very weak. it's ugly and horrible and just a mess. I only bought it because it was nearly 70% off.

These are just like the revised version in smaller scale from previous sets. It was a bad idea to bring Ninjago back for these vehicles.
70723 <<< 9449 Ultra Sonic Raider
70722 <<< 9441 Kai's Blade Cycle
70721 <<< 9442 Jay's Storm Fighter

I am with the majority vote on this one... these sets are not all that great. The minifigures are kinda cool but not enough for me to buy any of the sets. As someone else said, interesting but lame. Thank goodness for Bricklink!
Re: 2014 LEGO Ninjago Sets: 70723 70722 70721
Bear in mind, these are only three out of six known sets for the 2014 wave.
I don't really understand why everyone is bashing these. They look great to me. The comparisons to earlier sets is a bit silly, too. If they were nothing like earlier sets, everyone would be complaining how they don't look like they are Ninjago sets at all...
Anyway, yeah - you can say "70721 = 9442 Jay's Storm Fighter" in that they are both crazy looking fighter jet planes, but aside from using the same canopy and having wings that seem to swivel, the differences are quite apparent. The same can be said for all the other comparisons - they're in the same aesthetic as previous sets, but are mostly very different if you take the time to really look at them.

Considering these are all at or below the Golden Ratio, I'm happy.

On another note, did anyone else notice that the back of the thunder raider set looks like an usb? I thought that was pretty cool but other than that I'm not too impressed.
Re: 2014 LEGO Ninjago Sets: 70723 70722 70721
Agree to disagree. They went from dragons to vehicles then a mix of both, but got lazy and went back to vehicles. Now they are simply being lazy on the designs. What would be great if they can design some sort of combine vehicles or dragons, something like they did with Galaxy Squard. Or design some really cool looking bots like they did with the samaurai bot for each of the ninjas, and it will be great if they can they make them combine. My first impression of this theme before the first wave was ninjas meets power ranger, so why not make it happen with sets that combines?vynsane wrote:Bear in mind, these are only three out of six known sets for the 2014 wave.
