I was 'this close' to ordering it last night. However, I'm not really interested in Jor El, nor the poster. The only thing I really see (other than the really cool build) is the $10 in rewards points and ordering early.

Am I missing something else here? I expect that this is something I'll be able to order from amazon later and not have to pay sales tax. Or maybe even score on a BOGO sale somewhere. I'm not looking for investing, just building it.

I want this set, no doubt, but is it something that I need to jump on right away or do you folks think this'll be around for a while and I don't need to rush this? Thanks.

I don't see it as something that needs to be jumped on right away. I had 10 dollars in VIP rewards, there was free shipping and I sold my last Jor El on ebay for 15 dollars.

There is a couple of new Star Wars sets that are coming this summer that I am going to wait for sales on Amazon before purchasing.

My wife wants the Sydney Opera House eventually so that might be my next and final big Lego purchase in the fall.

So today we got a mysterious package at our door. The wife said...It's for you, I got you an early birthday present! (My birthday isn't til mid July). I open the box and it's Tower of Orthanc! I'm so excited! I had no idea it was coming. Came with a Jor El fig and a bonus Chima spinner pack too. Very sweet.

It should arrive by July 5th but wife might not be happy.

There have been a few open, but complete sets going cheaper than retail. A few new sets have sold close to retail plus shipping. So there were some deals.

How do these eBay sellers get the sets ahead of VIP members to sell? Are they Lego Store employees that get product early and get better discount? Seems odd that so many are willing to sell on eBay for nearly retail then only to lose money with all of eBay's pricey fees.

When a set like Tower of Orthanc is released as a Lego Store exclusive, is there a chance after a period of time that Lego will drop the exclusivity of the set? Has this happened with previous sets at all?

Careful Mrbill317! Some of those sellers on ebay selling new stuff at or below MSRP might be scammers. How? the key is a word in your above sentence, credit card! They use stolen CC to purchase the goods and use your address as shipping destination. While at first you are not the direct victim of the scam in the end you are since, LEGO might blacklist you and/or request that you return the product. Etc...

Well , I talked to him via txt msg , have a tracking number and his feedback was decent.
It wasn't a lot under msrp with tax , maybe 10 bucks.
