Mr.Gold LEGO Minifigure Picture (71001 Series 10)
Update: The US eBay listing has ended now. Sold at $500.
An eBay listing has revealed the first images of the highly anticipated LEGO Mr.Gold Minifigure from the new LEGO 71001 Series 10. The German seller has the price listed as EUR 999.00 ($1300). Number 865. Thanks to Jonathan and forum members BrickWild and lordbrick for the news.
Another eBay listing also shows another picture of Mr.Gold. This US seller has it listed at $3000 or best offer. Number 4628. The seller's location is in Portland, Oregon where it is one of the States that Fred Meyer stores are located (their stores are now carrying Series 10 minifigures).
With only 5000 of these minifigures released worldwide, this obviously is going to result in a shortage. I'm sure that after we see more of these listings (and they go off via auction), we'll see the real market equilibrium price. Back in 2007, something similar happened when LEGO randomly inserted 10 000 Gold-plated C-3PO minifigure in 2007 LEGO Star Wars sets. When they first started appearing, prices were very high. As more of them started appearing, the prices for these minifigures went to about $100 on eBay.
If you really want one of these Mr.Gold minifigures and planning to fork out this much money, we would advise finding it yourself first. If you do some simple math, you can already buy 433 Series 10 minifigures already (7 boxes) with $1300. For the $3000 price tag, you can get 1000 Series 10 minifigures (16 boxes).

Is Mr. Gold actually plated in real gold or are people buying and selling at these prices just insane?
Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Wow, well I guess i'm going to be missing a figure then because I'm not forking that much over for Mr. Gold! I'll throw him in the Comic Con figures category. Unless I find him i'm not getting him.
Re: Mr.Gold LEGO Minifigure Picture (71001 Series 10)
$500 is crazy enough, but $40 shipping is a deal breaker. ha
Congrats to the sellers though. :)

wow, more than comic con fig and gold C3-PO? somebody has money to spend. Would be cool if you get a free trip to lego land if you find one.
Re: Mr.Gold LEGO Minifigure Picture (71001 Series 10)
I don't think I'd be able to part with it if I had found one!
Re: Mr.Gold LEGO Minifigure Picture (71001 Series 10)
I already see a "custom" Mr. Gold figure listed on ebay as well.
Re: Mr.Gold LEGO Minifigure Picture (71001 Series 10)
I'm waiting for this one to hit clearance.

Re: Mr.Gold LEGO Minifigure Picture (71001 Series 10)
Like previously mentioned, it's generally the first ones that sell are the most expensive and then it levels out as people begin to post more. After a period of time though, they will reach high levels again. One thing that will determine cost for most of the listings we'll see hitting over the next couple mos will be the # of the fig. Lower the # the more expensive.

Since I'm in Portland should I assume that my "market" is tapped and stop looking?

I have a friend in Seattle, she is picking some up at a FM. Does anyone have any tips for finding Mr. Gold in the box? What to feel for? Thanks.

Given the fairly wide breath of locations of Freddies I think it matters what area of the city your in.

So true, and if Lego keep making their sets in China or any other low labor cost countries, we will see many, many more of these custom bootleg mini-figures.Marcus70 wrote:I already see a "custom" Mr. Gold figure listed on ebay as well.
Re: Mr.Gold LEGO Minifigure Picture (71001 Series 10)
I would assume that the seller from Portland most likely bought all the series 10 boxes from a couple of Fred Meyer stores and went through each packet. (or maybe he just weighted each box)DagsBricks wrote:Since I'm in Portland should I assume that my "market" is tapped and stop looking?

You most likely will find one if you go through 30-50 sealed boxes. So if that guy went to 5-6 Fred Meyer stores (assuming that each store carries 6-10 boxes), then I think you still have a chance if you visit the other Fred Meyer stores since there's like 20+ stores in Greater Portland.
Also, once the other retailers start carrying them, your chances of finding one would increase again. Just make sure that the boxes haven't been opened yet.
P.s Its funny that no one seems to care about the other series 10 minifigures anymore. There's usually a unique or army building guy that everyone wants. Seems like all everyone wants now is Mr.Gold.

The top hat should be pretty easty to feel for. With the lightsaber handle as a backup.bdellw wrote:I have a friend in Seattle, she is picking some up at a FM. Does anyone have any tips for finding Mr. Gold in the box? What to feel for? Thanks.

I'm from Seattle and I bought 1 case and felt through 8 others and with no luck although I was kind of lucky blindly stumbling across them while grocery shopping with my wife. We were feeling for the top hat and the bar.

Could it weigh more than a normal bag? Have a feeling these will be bought up quickly across the USA.
