[Review] 10221 Super Star Destroyer

Ok so I am going to make this as short as possible but considering the material it might be impossible to do. I am sorry that some of the pictures are blurry or bright. My camera is not so great at taking closeup shots most of the time. So here goes.

Set impressions
From here on out this is my opinion of the build and the set in general.
Pros:
Fun build (This was a really fun build. I had a blast putting it together and time flew by during the building process.)
Some cool minifigs. (They did a really good job with Dengar and this is my first set with Bossk so I am excited about that too.)
Size (This set is massive. I had to clear off my Hoth diorama table to put this thing together.)
Modular build (I like that it was a modular build. Having to sort through all of those pieces just to find something would have been a complete nightmare.)
Midi scale Star Destroyer (This is a cool little ship. It really puts the SSD in scale.)
Cons:
Repetitive build (At times during the build you are making five or six of the same things. I think at one point you had to make twelve of something. This is offset slightly by the cool parts like the engines module.)
Colors (If you are looking at getting this set to build and then later cannibalize then you are stuck with a ton of light and dark grey pieces. You do get the occasional black, blue, yellow, and red pieces but they are generally specialty pieces.)
Size (I know I listed it as a pro but it could also be a con. This thing needs a very large place to sit. If you have limited space this set may not be for you.
Stability (This set is flimsy in places, mostly around the nose. When you have to put the top two side plates on, if you aren’t careful, you could knock something loose like I did.)
Playability (This set has almost no playability. I know it isn’t a play set, it is a collector set, but it is still a nice bonus. The limited playability you do get out of it is the bridge scene from the fifth (actually 2nd) movie where Vader hires the bounty hunters to track down the Millennium Falcon.
Cost (This one is completely up to who is buying the set. If you love Star Wars and have the money I would say that this set is worth it. However, if you just want it purely to build and then do whatever you want with it afterwards then you are better spending that money somewhere else.)
Ok that’s it. If I missed anything please let me know. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Re: [Review] 10221 Super Star Destroyer
Sorry if anyone saw my super large pictures. I scaled them down so that they weren't all distorted.

Re: [Review] 10221 Super Star Destroyer
Thanks for the review. I really want this set but it's not a $400 want, hopefully it will be on sale for the May 4th promotion next year. :P
Re: [Review] 10221 Super Star Destroyer
Correction: Module 1 did not take 4.5 hours. Module 1 took 2.5 hours to complete. Modules 1 and 2 together took 4.5 hours to do.
Side note: The plaque with the information did not have any typos like Lego suggested some might have.

WoW!
Wish I had the space for it

Re: [Review] 10221 Super Star Destroyer
This falls in the category of the death star for me, Its neat, I would not mind owning it, but I wont spend that kind of money, nor do I really have the space for it. I found it extremely hard to justify spending $300 CDN on the Imperial Shuttle, which I only got due to multiple gift cards on Christmas from multiple family members who told me it was for just that set.

Nice job on the review! Looks like a pretty dedicated build.

Re: [Review] 10221 Super Star Destroyer
Nice Review. The set looks good, but way too expensive. One question, how/where did you get this? Its not "Officially" released yet. Just curious.
Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard disk?

However It IS available on s@h now.
I have inoperable cancer and am unable to work. Any gifts would be appreciated. Thank you!
Re: [Review] 10221 Super Star Destroyer
Impressive. It is bigger than I thought. For a display piece, it is stunning.
Re: [Review] 10221 Super Star Destroyer
Thanks for the review. In total, how long did it take you to do the build?
Re: [Review] 10221 Super Star Destroyer
About eight hours.dr_spock wrote:Thanks for the review. In total, how long did it take you to do the build?
