I think I can wait until it goes on sale, $130 seems a bit steep for only 866 pieces.

$130? What, are the gold pieces made of real gold? I know, its the Dragon, have to pay for the new molds and all, but still, wow, that's expensive. That would make it $150 or more in Canada.

Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
Maybe there was a mistake when they announced the $130 price tag. I can't believe it is that much.
It is practically double the price of a normal lego set. It is .15 cents per piece. That is terrible.
The dragon smaug and the lonely mountain is a cool set but the actual set is missing the staircases and the bridges that were in the movie. The Goblin King set was a much better buy and came with more figures.
I think I will pass on this set. Unless it drops by almost half the price.

I really want to see The Battle of Minas Tirith & Witch King Showdown. I've read about them on several trustworthy sites. If info posted about them is correct I would much prefer these two over the Lonely Mountain.

5 Minifigures ?!? That doesn't sound too lonely...

I think they are raising the prices because they now come with brick separators.mattlee1965 wrote:Maybe there was a mistake when they announced the $130 price tag. I can't believe it is that much.

Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?
Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
$130 doesn't shock me especially with the inclusion of Smaug. He's enormous and it's not surprising that they'd tack on $30 or so for him alone.
Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
A pretty disappointing set IMO. Smaug should be a set just on its own. Looks ridiculous so small.

Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
The price may be accurate. The castle set 'Dragon Mountain' has 376 pieces, 6 figures, and is $50. It has a better price per part ratio and more figures though. Smaug looks like one of those dragons but has new molding for the head and arms/wings. After gathering up 6 or 7 various dragons from previous castle series, Smaug is not impressing me much at all really. Same with the rest of the set really. Not only are we getting only a little bit of pearl gold instead of metallic or chrome, it also feels pretty small. I would have figured at least 500 more parts for this set considering the size of smaugs lair in the movie. Even more so after seeing the price. I honestly figured that Smaug would be based off those other dragons so I am not totally upset or surprised. That being said, I do not see myself buying this set unless it is at least half off.

Lots of Pearl Gold and tons of Sand Green, but totally not worth the price to me. Hopefully this one makes it through to the Clearance round.

Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
Disappointing. The dragon is just a reused castle drayon and the build isn't too exciting. Where's the pile of treasure?
Of course the photo is missing like the left third of the set too.

Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
Overall not bad.
I wish Smaugh would have been bigger and a better design, but I guess they are trying to keep it at a reasonable price, with out the need for new molds. But yes it could have been a little less expensive.
I will get it, but not at regular MSRP; waiting for a sale...

Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
Wow...$130??? That's a little steep...I may have to wait on this one. But historically the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit sets have always been overpriced, so I guess it's not too much of a shock. One thing I did notice is that the dwarves in the picture are not Oin and Gloin...it's Kili and Fili.
Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
Also, it looks like the picture is not showing the whole set. Look to the left of the picture...it looks like it extends on for a little bit. Like another archway or something...

Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
There are Hobbit sets with 800 pieces for $70, the dragon really adds $40-$60?
Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
There's plenty of sets that are nicer in the $80-$100 range. This is a big old pass.
Re: LEGO The Hobbit Lonely Mountain Set 79018
It does seem overpriced and under impressive. FBTB has pictures of the full set, sadly there wasn't anything good to the left that we couldn't see in the original image.
