Products To Coincide With LEGO-Themed Simpsons Episode, Airing May 2014 on FOX
BILLUND, Denmark (January 8, 2014) – The LEGO Group today announced a new partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products to produce a construction set and licensed LEGO® minifigures inspired by the iconic television series, THE SIMPSONS. In addition, FOX is scheduled to air a special LEGO episode of THE SIMPSONS in May 2014 featuring Springfield and its cast of characters in LEGO form.

Scheduled to launch this February in LEGO stores and via the LEGO Shop at Home catalog and website, the construction set will recreate the iconic Simpsons family house in LEGO form. Also included in the LEGO and THE SIMPSONS construction set is the entire family: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie along with neighbor Ned Flanders. A separate line of 16 LEGO THE SIMPSONS minifigures will launch in all mass toy retailers in May 2014.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Fox during the 25th anniversary year of the Simpsons,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president licensing & entertainment at The LEGO Group. “We know our fans will love the challenge of building the Simpsons’ family home in great detail and the ability to collect quintessential characters in LEGO minifigure form will let them showcase their love of the show in a whole new way. We are also excited that THE SIMPSONS will be created in LEGO form, truly bringing this partnership to life.”

“We are kicking off the 25th anniversary of THE SIMPSONS in a big way, and we think LEGO-loving fans of the show will be impressed with this collaboration that represents the best of both iconic worlds through the LEGO and THE SIMPSONS construction set, minifigures and LEGO-themed episode,” said Jeffrey Godsick, president of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products. “Our partnership with LEGO is the perfect addition to the range of product lines that will be introduced globally in celebration of this great milestone achievement in television history.”

Created by Matt Groening, THE SIMPSONS is the longest-running scripted show in TV history. Since premiering in December 1989, the series has become a cultural phenomenon, recognizable throughout the world. The show was named the “Best Show of the 20th Century” by Time Magazine, has won 28 Emmys and its theatrical short, "The Longest Daycare," was nominated for a 2012 Oscar.

The LEGO THE SIMPSONS house will be available February 1st in LEGO retail outlets for $199.99 (USD). The line of LEGO THE SIMPSONS minfigures will launch in May 2014 in all major toy retailers for $3.99 (USD) each.

The line of LEGO THE SIMPSONS minfigures will launch in May 2014 in all major toy retailers for $3.99 (USD) each.

Hopefully this new pricing doesn't carry over to new non-licensed CMS.

2 thoughts...

The price is great for that piece count! Especially being a licensed theme.

Also, 20th century fox also produces the x-men movies correct? Maybe this could lead to movie based sets instead of being restricted by the disney/marvel license.

$3.99 for the minifigures? In USD!?!?!?! Forget about it! That pretty much puts the nail in the coffin for me. That will probably be $4.25 or more up here in Canada. Even if they are at par, its too high. The house is a decent price considering the number of pieces though.

The word "Partnership" has been emphasized several times in this announcement. Does it mean that there will be no/less licnesed fee for TLG to produce these lego sets/minifigs? I had the feeling that TLG has been helping Twentieth Century Fox to promote the cartoon, and TLG should get paid instead.

$3.99 for a minifig!! The house would be a better value than the minifig pack. If the cost comes from licensed fee, I think it is not worth. If TLG tries to make more money from us thur this way, I will boycott this theme set.

You guys are complaining about a $1 price hike for new minifigures with all new heads at the minimum? Seems to me there is a LOT of new tooling happening with this line so $1 more per figure seems reasonable to me at least.

The price will be $3.5 plus $1 which will be $4.5 each. $4.5 x 16 minifigs plus tax will be $80.64. If I keep two sets, it will be $161.28. Two complete sets of minifigs would be equal to one box of modular set at U.S. MSRP.

It doesn't seem a lot for $1. However, it makes a big difference if adding up as a whole.

Also, at a $3.99 retail, these things will be twenty dollars each at TRU after markup!

Seriously though - I can understand the price increase for new molds, etc. But what about the next series? I mean if people pay the $3.99 for these, why wouldn't they pay the 3.99 for the next CMF series? And as has already been mentioned, it's only a buck - but it adds up. (and in general, I've never noticed retail prices to decrease after they've increased for something like this).

I was thinking about the same...if all of the figures have new head molds. If they don't all have new head molds it might look strange. The way I imagine it they won't fit together well if they don't.

Though we know we have itchy and scratchy coming. Maybe those 2 could reuse a past mold and get away with it. The humans not as much.
