[Winners] Holiday LEGO Building Contest 2011

Post by Toys N Bricks » Wed Dec 07, 2011 10:03 pm

December 10 Update: 4th place winner has been determined and is forum member Walter. Congratulations!

Our Holiday LEGO Building Contest 2011 is now partially officially over and we have 3 winners to announce! The reason why there's only 3 instead of 4 is because there's a tie for 4th place between Brick Monster and Walter. Therefore, we would appreciate it if you can help us vote between them one more time.

Before we announce who won for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, we would like to thank those that participated in entering our contest and also those that voted. Now, here are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners choosen from our forum members.

In 3rd place, we have the Black Friday at the Big Box entry by dho7622u. Congrats for winning a brand-new 7868 Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter set (bonus Battle Pack if you don’t want the box).

In 2nd place, we have the Oh come, All ye faithful entry by bono1900. Congrats for winning a brand-new 8128 Cad Bane’s Speeder set (bonus Battle Pack if you don’t want the box).

In 1st place, taking the lead with 50% more votes than the runner up, we have a very impressive Winter Candy Shop from condor. Congrats for winning the grand prize of the LEGO Exclusive 10222 Winter Village Post Office (sponsored by the LEGO Group).

*Grand Prize sponsored by the LEGO Group. 2nd, 3rd and 4th prizes are sponsored by Toys N Bricks. Winners will be contacted with details on how to claim their prize.

Congratulations to all who entered, and especially to those who won. It was really tough to decide how to split 3 points. There were about 7 sets I wanted to give a point to, but alas over half of them I couldn't.

Beyond those seven, the remaining entries were great. Some didn't have a holiday feel to me, so I wouldn't vote for them for this contest, although I might had the contest been different.

Some others suffered from photos that didn't do enough to show off the wonderful creation. One thing I've found in viewing thousands of MOCs is that the quality of the photo is as important as the quality of the build. There are many great tutorials out there on photographing LEGO, so if you think your photo quality might have impacted your chances in this contest, read up so you're ready for the next contest. Even an inexpensive camera can often take great pictures with proper lighting and camera placement.

Thanks to everyone for your support on this project! As some of you know it was my very first contest, having just come out of my personal dark ages about 5 months ago. It was really cool to see the page this morning.

Riffing off meyerc's comment about photography and all, if anyone has suggestions of what I could do better in the future, I would love to hear some feedback. Please feel free to look at my stuff on my flickr page or PM me. As a teacher, I know that graceful criticism can really help.

Thanks again and look forward to more contests/MOCs/conversations.

I just realized I can't send my address because I don't have enough required posts to do so. My apologies if I take awhile to get it out, because I've been busy with my studies lately. However my work load is starting to clear up, so I'll hopefully get around to getting more integrated into the community soon. :-)

I do apologize for that, totally forgot that we had restrictions on new members. I've sent you another PM with instructions on how you can reach us.

Walter, your prize (no box Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter and Rebel Trooper Battle Pack) has been shipped and should arrive in 6-12 business days. You may get it before Christmas as Canada Post has become rather speedy during these past few weeks.

Please post here when you have received it!

First it was shiped to my friends in Iowa, then my other friends brought it to Novosibirsk (Russia), then 200 miles round trip from Tomsk and I have it!!! (I do not trust Russian post service after they "lost" few of my orders from BN.com)
