Post by Hodgeman » Sat Dec 11, 2010 7:43 am

My wife just called me to report that a new LEGO store is due to open in Spring 2011 at Square One mall in Mississauga....

Man, I'm excited!!!!

Sorry if this is old info, but it is the first I've heard about it...
LEGO, it's not just a toy, it's an addiction... ;)

Man you Torontonians are lucky, wish they would build a LEGO store here in Vancouver, BC, or at least in the Lower Mainland. That would be sweet!

Correction - It is Sherway Gardens, not Square One. Sorry about that, I don't know my malls very well. Here is the sign she saw posted:

Theres even an article to prove its at sherway gardens! Very awesome that its in ontario. FINALLY!!! :D
At Sherway Gardens, one of the malls where Nine West is moving to a smaller format, there’s a waiting list for new tenants.

The mall has announced six new stores are coming next spring, including the first Lego store in Ontario, on top of half a dozen new stores that opened in the past year, said Elena Price, the mall’s senior marketing director.

Come on LEGO, get to British Columbia already. It would be great to see a store in Vancouver or even better, in Richmond. :D But congrats to Ontario!

this would be logical as the first one was in western Canada.

Hopefully, the next few are in montreal and Vancouver

but for all you BC Lower Mainlander's

Where do you think the best venue would be?
Pacific center?
Richmond Center? or
Oakridge?

I did not pick lansdowne or metrotown as they have TRU's already.

I was going to say Metrotown as it is the most central location within the Lower Mainland.

If it can't be at Metrotown then at least Pacific Center, that is the next best location. IMHO

I was at Sherway yesterday. My Fiancée pointed it out when we were walking by that sign. VERY EXCITED.

Since I live near Richmond Centre, I would obviously choose that, but Pacific Centre is good too. Richmond Centre itself is not a very big mall, so it might not be the best place for a LEGO store to open. Pacifc Centre is a higher class mall in Downtown Vancouver so if they open a store there, there may be a chance more people will go there.

If a LEGO Store opens up at Metrotown or Lansdowne, it might force TRU to match the LEGO MSRP, since TRU is alays a couple bucks higher than usual.

If the LEGO store opens around here it will be a great store to go to as they will also have the Pick A Brick wall which will benefit all LEGO lovers, especially AFOLs and TFOLs who are always creating MOCs.

I think Metrotown is a great location, and especially if it causes TRU to bring down their prices then we really benefit from that.

true...that TRU might have to lower prices to compete but will TRU continue to have their TRU exclusives. In addition, big box companies are the ones that conduct the massive sales. Yes there is sales for the online Lego store but not as frequently. So even though, the Lego store may run daily prices lower. Consumers may wait to buy Lego when TRU has one of its sales.

I guess I am asking from a business perspective. If TRU can conduct 20-25% sales (or even 50%) more frequently than the Lego store, is it beneficial for Lego to establish a retail store in the same location. Perhaps someone from a city that has a Lego store can answer that. Are there sales in the store? I know that the Lego store calendar has sales (in terms of freebies or double point days) but are there percentage sales (ie: 25% off).

One thing that Lego stores would hold economic advantageous is the Pick-a-brick selection. I guess also the children's events that actually engage builders, something of a public relations initiative, is nice as well.

the sale if that is what you want to call it is random in the calgary lego store, and happens about once every few months, they last all month long, and are unadvertised. this month the store is having 25% off some atlantis, and some technic. most of the time the store is 3/4 full.

Do LEGO stores typically have a "soft" opening before the Grand Opening date? I.e. is the April date on the Sherway Gardens site likely right or wrong?
