LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack Product Description

When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various LEGO worlds, different characters from DC Comics, Lord of the Rings and the LEGO Movie are swept away. To save their friends, Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle bravely jump into the vortex to rescue their friends and fight to save all of LEGO humanity. Let your creativity be your guide as you build the LEGO Gateway to adventure, journeying through unexpected worlds and teaming-up with unlikely allies on the quest to defeat the evil Lord Vortech. Play with characters you never thought you could see in a LEGO game together, using vehicles and weapons you never thought possible. LEGO Bad Cop driving the DeLorean Time Machine. Why not?! The Ninja go Masters of Spinjitsu fighting alongside Wonder Woman...yes, please! Get ready to break the rules, because the only rule with LEGO Dimensions is that there are no rules.

For the first time, LEGO characters from a mix of the best brands in the universe join forces and battle in worlds outside of their own. A Dark Knight, a Wizard, and a Master Builder traveling together down the Yellow Brick Road are just the beginning..

By purchasing additional expansion packs, you can grow your collection with a variety of your favorite brands to create even more crazy combinations.
Bring up to 7 characters, vehicles and weapons into the game all at once by dropping them on the LEGO Gateway for the most exciting and action-filled game around.
Let your imagination guide your solo journey or have a friend join the adventure with co-operative, drop-in/out play.

Spyro Skylanders did this same thing. I grew up playing all the Spyro games, and this kind of marketing scheme completely destroyed the game series for most of the old fans. Can't beat the game unless you invest thousands of dollars into figures. This is a sad day for Lego...

Will the mini-figures will be permanently glued to the base or something?

As long as they still keep releasing the other LEGO games. The only annoying thing would be exclusive characters. Can't decide if I would PREFER that they are glue just to keep me from buying them.

I don't think they're glued because there is a piece count at the top. Just spitballin' here-the base is the most important part of the game. That little round base the minifigs are on is what will probably hold the information to get that character in the game. I don't think you have to have anything on it and you can keep the bricks in your play bin.

I like that the wicked with actually has legs.

Too much money for my taste but I'll see how it goes.

This is awful. Why would TLG copy the concept of video game Skylanders/Disney Infinity!? Isn't this too late to copy. I believe that gamers who were excited with this kind of game model has already been trying with Skylanders or Disney infinity. After 4 waves of Skylanders and 2 waves of Disney Infinity, gamers did spend a lot of money on those expensive game accessories and many of them were sick of it. On the other hand, TLG is too crazy/arrogant to set the starter pack at the price of $99.99. It is true that the LEGO Movie is a success but that doesn't mean they could expect that shoppers have that much of money to spend. Unless this Lego Dimensions game itself is very outstanding, price drop is inevitable.

At last, I definitely pass on this. I am sorry if I upset the one who is excited about it.

Have you seen Nintendo Amiibos? No? Because they sell out before they ever hit the shelf. This is the new big thing.

Before it used to be 'buy the $60 game and then we will release $50 in DLC that should have already been in the game'. Now it's "We will release a $60 game, include useless overprice figure just so you can connect it to the game when the figure should have already been in the game!"

I must not let my kids see this. I already have to buy these Skylanders (thank goodness for Kijiji and Ebay), if I have to listen to them begging for this too....

I think these will be successful. So long as the figures are not glued to the base (which is kind of hard to tell from the pictures) people will buy the packs just for the models and figures if they don't care about the game. And I think if the game play is open and interesting enough that it will successful. Especially if you don't have to buy a new game every year like in Skylanders or Disney Infinities.

All I have seen was that most local electronic and retail chain stores has overstocked them and no shoppers touched them. No one in school or work has talked about the Amiibos. I doubt Amiibos is a "new big thing".

I love the idea of legos being able to do this. Because this is the first type of game where i have ever seen something like super heroes and lord of the rings combined together which could be really cool. But the price to me is just ridiculous. $15 for a miniature pack seems high, but i don't know how much other types of games are? I am sure they will hit the aftermark fairly cheap. The lego figures seem to be similar to the regular figures except that Nya figure which is really cool. I like the little vehicles and creatures such as the batmobile is really cool too. I hope they are partable and have instructions.

I'm digging this. The LEGO videogames were my initial gateway back into collecting actual LEGO, so this is like coming full-circle. I love the LEGO videogames, they're just a lot of fun.

However, I'm torn, because I also really love Disney Infinity and have already poured a lot into that - how do I justify two different games like this? I'd have to think that the starter pack will have good discounts come Christmas time (like DI) so maybe then...

I would love to play this, but I think the price may be a little too steep. I'm excited for the Wizard of Oz though! Do you think this is why Lego rejected the Road to Oz Cuusoo set earlier? Because they had this coming down the pipeline? I just hope this means actual Wizard of Oz sets coming soon! Also, any word on if the minifigures can come off of the baseplates?

To buy one copy of each set listed here, it is $335. Pretty steep investment. Each new wave would be $200-$250 of items it seems. I heard about the rumor that LEGO+TT was making their own amiibo, but I didn't know they were making the price points higher.

I love all the other LEGO TT games, but for $50 you got 100+ characters. Now for $335 you get 18 characters with each new character costing an extra $15.

I will just have to be selective and only buy the ones I really want.

Soooo:
DC:
Joker and Harley in a 'team pack', then 'fun packs' of: Bane, Aquaman (which does the near-impossible: make him look cool...:D), and Superman,

Ninjago:
Master Wu, and Llyod in 'Golden Ninja' form

Back to the Future:
Doc Brown...
This gets better and better, now we just need Ghostbusters, some generic 'City' stuff....

If you're just in it for the MF's it's basically $12 a pop. Back to the future, and figures that only came in big sets like Bane and Harley Quinn are cheaper but Ghostbusters wouldn't be ($50 for 4 MF and Ecto 1).

I love this for all the big sets I wll not have to buy now (c'mon Sauraman in white dress & tampo'ed Boba Fett) but I hate it for all the big sets I've already bought (I'm looking @ you Batcave & Arkham Asylum).

Sounds expensive, I will definitely NOT play the game as I'm too old for it but I love all the lego mini models that packs come with, I may be buying them just for those or I'll get instructions on line...

Does anyone know if instructions are still available somewhere on line? Are there any exclusive/rare pieces/colors?
