The Box:

The box is about 5'' in height width and depth and is the same size as the first Minecraft set. It was designed to look like a block of lava from the Minecraft game.

The Parts:

Inside you'll find five bags, a brick separator and two instruction books.

There are three printed pieces for the faces of the two ghosts and the zombie pigman

Image

This fairly new part, the 2x2 inverted tile, first appeared in the Ninjago Samurai Mech last year in dark grey. This part in white is exclusive to this set.

Image

156 of the 469 pieces in this set are 1x1 tiles, making this set a great parts pack, and the light orange tiles only appear in this set. This set also has the largest number of dark red and black 1x1 tiles of any set.

All of the pieces.

The Build:

Image

The micromobs are two Ghasts and a zombie pigman. Very accurate designs. The zombie pigman carries a golden sword like in the game

Image

The nether portal, the only way to enter and exit the nether.

Image

Starting on the first section of the micro world we have what appears to be a lava well in a nether fortress.

Image

The top part of the first section with three colors of tiles probably representing gravel, netherrack and soul sand.

Image

The floor of the second section is mostly lava.

Image

Finishing the second section we have a nether fortress walkway and trans yellow 1 x 1 plates for glowstone on the ceiling.

Image

The third section has more lava and a stone path for safe crossing.

Image

More nether fortress walkway.

Image

Fourth section, more lava and stone path.

Image

The fourth section has a lava fall and more walkway.

Image

All four sections put together.

The other side.

Completed model with micromobs and nether portal.

The extra pieces.

Conclusion:

DESIGN 9/10 - This set takes many features from the game and neatly packs them into one small set. The four sections can be easily taken apart and rearranged to your liking.

BUILD 8/10 - The build is fairly straightforward and not too hard. The most difficult part was getting all the tiles on straight which isn't critical but makes it look a lot nicer if you're building as a display piece. I imagine straightening them it would be a lot harder for someone with large hands.

FIGURES 8/10 - I'm very happy that the mobs have printed faces :) but In my opinion one zombie pigman is not enough as they are very common in the game. The ghasts are unstable and tip over easily.

PLAYABILITY 6/10 - This set was mostly designed for display, it's very small and doesn't have many play features.

PARTS 9/10 - Lots of 1x1 tiles and parts exclusive to this set. Dark red pieces make up 1/3 of the entire set.

PRICE 8/10 - 469 pieces for $35 comes out to about 7.4 cents per part, not too bad even considering all the small pieces.

OVERALL 8/10 - If you're looking for a play set this probably isn't your best choice. If you like lots of small tiles and/or dark red pieces this is a good set for you. But If you're a fan of Minecraft and LEGO this set is a must buy!
