To echo Grauman's Chinese Theater(which I consider the most famous Movie theater in the world) rather than be accused of a repeat of the one from Main Street.Brickred wrote:I am going broke already, damnn my wish list for 2013 is already full and I don't even have the 2012 ones in place, the cinema looks great, I wonder why they went with a Chinese style roofing?

Looks really beautiful, looks like they're going for the Grauman's Chinese Theater look in Hollywood
Re: LEGO 2013 Modular Building (10232 Palace Cinema)
I do not own any of the modular sets yet, having been primarily been driven by the desires of my kids...which has meant a lot of Star Wars, some Ninjago and Friends...though I spend nearly as much time building as they do.
I am now interested in these modular sets, and with several out (Pet Store, Fire Brigade, Town Hall, Grand Emporium), I am looking for some advice on what to start with. Do any of these really stand out more than others, or should price and the threat of retirement drive my first purchase?
Or do you go for more thematically driven sets like Medieval Market or Haunted House?
If you were going to get one, which would you start with?
Thanks for the input!

I would go by threat of retirement! I missed the first 3 modulars and now will never get them due to price. Had i known that after building the fire brigade, i would promptly buy all other modulars available, i may have just skipped it! Probably not, but my wife wishes i had!
And $119 for your first modular on Amazon would be a great start!

I agree with lionstone22. If your choice is to pick up something now, go with the fire brigade. It is a classic design, great fun to build, and good for play time with the kids, too. (the fire truck is a big draw). At $120 on amazon right now, its a great buy. It wont be around much longer, and if you end up with a 'modular row', you'll want it in the mix.BeMild wrote: If you were going to get one, which would you start with?
I like the pet shop, too. but you still have some time to pick that one up at a reasonable price.

Thanks Lionstone22 and SpaceViking....I pulled the trigger on the Fire Brigade from Amazon. Hopefully, my wallet will fill up again and I will be able to pick up a couple of others before they are gone.
Out of curiosity, would you recommend the Grand Emporium or Pet Shop next?

The Grand Emporium was 2010, whereas the Pet Shop is 2011. I would recommend the Grand Emporium for the same reason, you have a better chance before it is discontinued.BeMild wrote:Out of curiosity, would you recommend the Grand Emporium or Pet Shop next?
Here's a list from Brickset that shows them all and the years:

Wow, looks great! I wonder how many sets are needed to make a decent sized theater though. Only 6 seats lol.

Thanks for the photos of the cinema...it looks like they nailed it, down to the stars on the sidewalk (the Hollywood "Walk of Fame").

Thanks for the photos! It really is interesting...though tickets for 100$ seems a bit steep.

"Forever Sorting." AFOL humour...
It's a gorgeous set, just too bad that the interior is so small. It's got everything a cinema needs, but I was hoping they may find a way to make the auditorium two-stories. It really does have that old-timey Hollywood premier feel, though.

Not surprised the interior is so small, since the street takes over a 1/4 of the base plate like the Grand Emporium.
At 2196 pieces, it appears to be less pieces for the building than the Grand Emporium (when you substract all of the pieces for the car).

That's what happens when they've only got 6 seats!dho7622u wrote:Thanks for the photos! It really is interesting...though tickets for 100$ seems a bit steep.

The outside is beautiful but the interior is pathetic. Luckily its the outside that really counts on these modular sets. I may have to get this one. It would be my first (not counting the Haunted House). Its oozing golden age Hollywood, uber premier theater.

Set looks great.
Is the tuxedo guy the same torso as Lord Vampyre from MF or just similar?

Looks the same. Hopefully its just a stand in and not the final product, because frankly it doesn't work.
