I was ordering my brothers christmas gift from LegoS@H, and needed $13.00 for free shipping, so I ordered the mummy battlepack, should be here in a week or two, and well find out what the quality is like.

Seriously? That stinks. I was hoping to get a Battle Pack for Kingdoms or a future Castle Theme.

I was looking at the Sets at TRU yesterday with my BOGO cupon in hand....wow the price per piece count for this them is horrible...actually worse than Star Wars.

7327 MSRP $99.99 Pieces 792 Price per piece: 12.63

7326 MSRP $49.99 Pieces 527 Price per piece: 9.49

7325 MSRP $29.99 Pieces 213 Price per piece: 14.08

7307 MSRP $19.99 Pieces 125 Price per piece: 15.99

7306 MSRP $9.99 Pieces 70 Price per piece: 14.27

07305 MSRP $4.99 piece 44 Price per piece: 11.34

Compare that to a few random Star Wars

8096 PPP: 10.13,
8093 PPP: 14.2,
8089 PPP: 13.46,
8029 PPP: 13.50,
8099 PPP: 9.45,
8098 PPP: 10.52,
6212 PPP: 11.44
8038 PPP: 11.23
10198 PPP: 10.65
8017 PPP: 11.95
10188 PPP: 10.52

True, but the number of new parts (or in new colors), new figs, etc, is part of it. Yes, it's expensive, but the theme is awesome.

if the label said made in china, it's inferred that the material is from china. doesn't make sense to ship raw material from elsewhere for what is essentially a commodity.

I find it funny that in Pharaoh's Quest (and if my memory serves me, Adventurers Egypt as well), the Sphinx, which is a cat-like being, is an Anubis-like statue-a Jackal is not a cat...

I wouldn't call that a sphinx, it looks more like a jackal. Makes sense if the mummies are evil though.

Pharaoh's Quest is amazingly good, if I'm any judge. Aside from that the fact that Egypt is one of the most popular ancient cultures among children (among those who actually like History), with books and movies about it, it's also got fantasy Mummy Characters (all of them are awesome), lots of great colors-tan, dark blue, and dark red are just plain awesome, gold is semi-rare and really useful, dark tan and earth orange are rare, and then there's a lot of really nice hieroglyph parts-granted, they are stickers, but from the boxes it's hard to tell and even though they are stickers, they look awesome. There's great new Adventuring heroes as well, and a lot of accessories. In all that, it appeals to children. Adults and teens are also often attracted by these reasons, but in addition to that, many have nostalgia-avid Adventurers fans can easily be drawn in by something quite similar, and in some ways better, than Adventurers. Granted, the enemies are magical humans instead of very rich humans, and it's not all that similar to Indiana Jones, but it's clear-similar cars and planes, same era-the era of archeology. The theme is magnificent. Sadly, there are bad part values-a sale would be VERY nice, just to make for a decent price per part. I'm surprised at the SW sale, but I'd really like to see a PQ sale. I'm hooked on the theme-if I can get a job sooner or later (possibly at the end of the school year, possibly during it), I'm getting at least two more Pyramid of the Pharaoh sets for the guards, the gold, and the parts. I'd also get triples of just about everything else, and at least 5 of the 20 and 10 dollar sets (I already plan on getting at least 3 of the 10 dollar sets, but I'll probably spend more money on the 30 Atlantis (TRANS YELLOW!!!), get some of the Space (I LOVE Space Exploration), some money on NINJAGO (epic accessories), etc...I can't BELIEVE how amazing winter 2011 is. I've got to get extras...but I think Pharaoh's Quest is the crowning Gem. And technically, the two new Minifigure series are winter 2011 (in my opinion better than the previous ones).

I'd like to see a theme with purple as the main color. That theme would sell super well! Purple/tan vs dark blue/white.

As for PQ, I'm with tf2. It's the novelty of a new theme. TRU was allowed early release mainly as a test market for how well a theme will sell so TLC can plan production so they don't overstock and force to liquidate at 75% sale later on. But to really gauge that you need the sets to sell at msrp or more.

But my opinion? It's flawed since so many people rush to be the first to part out the sets to sell those mfs on ebay or bl, and probably returning the sets when they repurchase during a sale in jan or feb (you have like 90days to return) it's mostly skewed by demands from these scalpers instead of end users. Some might say the end users buy from scalpers etc and overall reflect the market demand, etc. Well... I won't go into there. Let's just say there is never any real risk of stocking up early so recently we have been seeing more ppl rushing to be the first buyer of new lego themes and sets. It's just like any bubble. You want just enough hype but not too much lest the bubble pop in a spectacular fashion.

Way too many ppl are in the lego resale business. Just look at the amount of bl shops and ebay listers. The number is growing. Quite a few of these have no interest in lego, just in making a buck.

Is there some sort of data to back this up? The wording here has some air of authority to it, but I don't see any real reason or evidence as to why LEGO would test-market via TRU. It's the same thing as any other theme, TRU releases them early, we've seen it season after season this year.

As for the reselling theory, I'm sure there is some validity to that, but for the most part I would think these sets are going to kids who think they're awesome. Maybe I'm naive or doing it wrong, but I don't see a lot of profit in being 'the first on the block' to resell/part out new sets, though that just could do more with geographic location than anything else - the northeast seems to consistently get stuff last, so by the time I would see anything on the shelves, it wouldn't be worth my while to do it. My location makes parting out clearances the better bet.
